He slept through every class/read Goosebumps throughout.

It says something when he's spent most of his high school days reading at an elementary school level.

 

I still don't know how he got on the honor roll.

high school isn't that hard - it's possible Chris was on honor roll

 

I think CWC admitting Bob did his homework was about PVCC. Although Chris said Bob did the "brainwork" for him, which may have meant Bob didn't do Chris' homework, but still helped him.

("brainwork" could've meant helping Chris get into college too)

 

I mean, if I was slow in the mind, and had an accomplished engineer as a father, I'd probably do the same.

 

yeah, it isn't like Chris was taking any AP/Honor's classes which, honor roll while taking AP/Honor's class looks better on a transcript than a normal class by far. He was probably taking the really easy classes.

 

IDK if we ever got the complete list of classes Chris took, but he seemed to have taken the usual classes people take in high school - English, history, government, math, science, computer classes, Spanish, etc.
it seems he took some home ec and family life classes

 

I keep coming back to this line on the DIRTY, CRAPPED BRIEFS article:

I will be on my deathbed 50-60 years from now, surrounded by my family and friends, and the words, "DON'T JUST BE LIKE HI, I SHIT MYSELF" will likely still be ringing in my head.

 

One thing I want to point out about the whole honor roll in high school thing: there is this infamous term paper that has been floating around the internet since at least 2004 that kind of gives a good look into just how hard it is in some schools to get a failing grade.

If you go all the way to the last page, you will see that the paper, which was obviously deliberately poorly written, still managed to get just enough points to score a D (still a passing grade, FYI). For all we know, Chris could have just have gone to a high school with that kind of leniency on grades (other than the chad that gave him an F in english, of course).

 

You have to try pretty hard to get an F in a USA high school class. People who fail are almost always people who don't even show up.

Real mystery is how he got into PVCC. Even a crappy community college should have rejected him.

 

I'm really surprised to hear that high school is normally pretty easy because my high school was balls to the wall hard and you were lucky to get a B and this is someone who graduated in the top 10 percent of my major in college, seriously, college was so much easier than high school.

Are private schools just more difficult or something?

 

IDK if he took any remedial classes, and lots of people get into college and get stuck in remedial classes (and most don't get out)
it's not hard to imagine that he did OK in school and went off to community college - his one teacher flunked him for his mall design, so it sounds like at least some of his teachers took things seriously
high school and community college aren't that hard and it's not hard to imagine Chris skated by doing the minimum

I had the opposite experience, and thought high school didn't prepare me for college
I too was in the top 10% of my high school and college classes

 

Public schools get federal funding if grades are crappy, if they fail to many students or to many excell then the funding is pulled.

Private schools are the opposite, if kids don't do well the parents pull them and stop paying.
