Sonic the Movie Announcement

Really? It looks 80s-esque. I think it was out at around the same time as the first Ninja Turtles movies.

Seems I'm floating on the same boat. My family got a Genesis and the first 3 hedgehog games (also that Knuckles thing where you put another cartridge in it). I didn't keep up with the hedgehog franchise beyond that -- my family was more into Nintendo/Mario.

 

As a kid, I loved the Adventure games and Heroes, and I treat still them as a sort of guilty pleasure.
Beyond that, other than those, the Genesis games, Generations, and the Advance and Rush series (to an extent), the rest of the series is something I like in a "so bad it's good" kind of way.
That being said, I'm still not going to go see this movie. Especially now that it's been bumped up from "slow moving train wreck" to "terribly mediocre".
Edit: oops! Forgot to include Colors and Mania in that small list of "Sonic games I unironically enjoy."

 

Depends if it's late February or early February.

January is the real dump month where the worst of the worst tend to get released in theaters.

February's become sort of a weird month in recent years, early February is still a cinematic wasteland like January while mid-February tends to be a mini-blockbuster season for chick flicks and romantic comedies because of Valentine's Day.

Late February is sort of like March and April. It's for the smaller movies or indie films (the ones that aren't Oscar Bait or hipster trash)

The films that come out in March and April (and increasingly late February) are the kind of movies that the studios think can do well in their own right but can't compete against the big summer blockbusters. If Sonic is released in the last two weeks of February, it might be one of those "Spring Movies" that serve as a buffer between the "cinematic hell" of January and early February and the big summer blockbusters.

The fact that Paramount is even redesigning Sonic at all because of the massive backlash is surprising, especially in this day and age where Hollywood goes out of its way to insult and belittle their core audiences. My guess is that Detective Pikachu took a lot of people by surprise by being the first live-action video game movie that broke the curse, being very successful both financially and in terms of audience reception.

Paramount is redesigning Sonic because Detective Pikachu did so well. I don't think the Sonic movie will be any good, but now I think it's not going to be the massive disaster we all thought it was.

 

Seems they're really going to release it this time. There's a big cardboard promo thingy of it at the local theater. Imagine if they went with the freakish design they had planned the first time...

 

They actually filmed parts of this movie about a half hour from my house.

 

So did Chris ever did funny during this movie's release? And is it safe to assume that he came in his panties when it showed Sonic's feet?

 

How did the recent sequel go?

 

From what I've heard it's "reference to popular culture = funny" the movie which was what I've heard the first one was like as well. Hack writers now a days overly rely on this concept to pad out their scrips and time and time again it proves to be annoying and pandering; this was one of the myriad of reasons why Space Jam 2 sucked (that's a whole other topic, remind me to re-watch the film for the one year anniversary on July 16th).

The original feels really recent, so it seems like the sequel came out right after.

 

Hard to believe but it was two years between the films, and even longer from when that first trailer dropped in 2019

 

This didn't age well.

That whole mess with that crappy Sonic design and the studio actually listening and redesigning it?

It still feels recent.

(and yet not recent because it happened before the disaster that was 2020)
