Well renaming it is easier than making it healthy lol. I remember there used to be Sugar Smacks, then they changed to Honey Smacks. Same garbage cereal but now parents don't know it contains sugar.

 

Still cannot understand how poor people complain about not being able to cook cheap and nutritive food.

Potatoes, rice, noddles and vegetabls always are a cheap option and you can buy bones at any butcher store to use as a base for stock soups as well. Fuck, one of my favorite homemade ramen recipes included a broth made out of chicken bones, carrot, garlic, celery, cabbage, basil, onion and 1/3 broth cube, plus indidual servings of instant ramen noddles (wheat, egg, potato starch) bought for cheap at import stores (6 servings for $2), plus a sliced boiled egg and cilantro/chopped green onion as garnishments.

This ramen was deicious, absurdly cheap, absurdly easy to prepare (most difficult part was boiling the stock for over 2 hours) and it warmed you from inside, so it was perfect as comfort food and since the noddles were the instant type, you could reheat the broth and add the noddles directly on it to eat it anytime.

 

I suppose that comes from not reading the side of the box like they should.

I feel like a good chunk of the country forgot how to cook, at least, the inherited need to. Either they didn't pick it up from their parents or didn't go through Home Ec. class.

 

You know you can even cook a fancy prawn dinner while still being on a budget?

All you need is a small bag of frozen cocktail prawns (less than $2 fucking dollars for a 200 gram bag) and then stirfry chopped onion, chopped green and red peppers, plus a sliced garlic in a medium sized cooking pot, then add rice, salt, a chopped tomato and boiling water and cook for 10 minutes, then add the previously stirfried prawns, stir and let it cook for 2 minutes, then turn off the heat and let it ret for 5 minutes, then serve it accompanied with a dollop of mayo.

The cost of this dish isn't even pver $5 and you can get 2 servings out of it. (3 if you are stingy)

 

America got rid of Home Ec because it "wasn't important".

Same thing with shop.

The thing is, when I mentioned KD earlier in this thread I was referring to the off-brand stuff that they sell at the stores where poor people shop at where a single box (a single meal) is around 35 cents, with 2 weeks of boxes/meals costing less than $20 when soda is included.

The main thing is that the average poor person is overworked and usually pretty depressed and possibly suffering from a mental issue. Plus, most people are deep in debt, with people being encouraged to spend as much money as possible to get out of debt quickly. People are depressed, and people are making bad life decisions because of it and digging a deeper hole for themselves. They don't want to cook, they just want a cheap and easy meal.

Either way, I'll be dead in about two weeks so none of this fucking matters. I'm wasting my valuable time arguing on a site and discussing a retarded mans life. Fuck.

Weird. When I had my fair and long quota of economic struggle I decided that even if I had to live with so little I still was going to eat decent meals and my cooking was one of the things that helped me to go through a long and very difficult part of my life.

That's why I leared fast to cook tasty meals using cheap ingredients and how to always keep a second serving on the fridge so I could reheat it and eat a decent meal when I was back at home from work. Rice and noddles can be cooked and stored for 2 days, and I always was on the prowl for discounted meat cuts that I could buy, cut, slice and freeze to always have some meat ready to cook until the next sale (ground beef is your best friend when you are poor, by the way.) Also, frozen veggies are cheap and there's nothing wrong with using store brand ingredients like rice, noddles, sugar, cooking oil and such instead of wanting to buy the fancy brands and whinning because you can't afford them.

Now that I have a much better job and my struggles are long gone I keep the same old frugal lifestyle because I'm too used to it, but I've seen too many people who also got promotions and better paid jobs use the extra money to get in deeper debt or keep the same shitty lifestyle because the booze and drugs already fucked them up beyound repair.

 

I had both and I'm not as old as Chris, but close. Chris may not have had them because who wants to let tismo near a band saw? Granted in my school, even the low track kids took classes like that. Home Ec was also unisex class.

We are side tracking big time, but everything being said is true. Most people are spenders and willing to trade time/health for ease. Now to play devils advocate since, we all are agreeing Chris is just a lazy slob, in regards to someone like Chris, the chances to get him to cook well or safely might be past him. If it's not on a mental scale it would take years to condition him to get in the habit.

When you see normal joe blow getting fast food daily, fuck him. Seriously, fuck him. He's pushing health care costs up, griping he's broke. He's a scum bag. Chris is in la la land and thinks he's entitled to have other people task for him, he's pretty slow so much past mircowaving could be an issue (remember this is a man who literally burnt his house down making coffee) The idea of planning etc are lost to him. You couldn't see him going ok, huge bag of rice 30 dollars will last a month. To him he can't afford it, then gets 5 dollar deals every day at Micky Ds. Lots of people are guilty of this, but most could learn if they choose to or were taught.

In some ways, aside their gross abuse of money the Chandlers would be lower middle class, for a lot of reasons, some are scientifically backed, people love being middle class. You keep creditors from stressing you, and you don't gotta worry about your investments. It's why a lot of people just eek by, they choose to make money a small stress in life, and then get upset and stressed out when the Jones move up...then they feel need to and get into fiscal issues.

 

Chris actually did have some sort of home ec class in school, he wrote about it in his week with Christian assignment.

Also, the food companies know people value quick and easy meals. If you can pan fry chicken there are tons of sauces you can simmer it in, then just add rice or noodles and voila, dinner. That isn't the healthiest way to cook, but it is easy and fairly cheap.

Also any cooking area in 14BC is blocked off by hoard garbage. It would take a few hours to clear it out, but Chris would complain.

 

It's not too bad for you over all, far beating out hungry man, frozen pizza etc but with how side tracked we are let me not get into marcos, bulking diets and the such lol.

It's funny you mention the last part, people of all walks of life and mental power love to play games with themselves to get what they want. Some of us catch it and stop, others let it roll, most people don't see these games we play. Let's be honest, Chris likes fast food, for a lot of reasons main one being less work.

So hoarding the kitchen was in a way part of his plan. Sure he and blob could stop, but that won't happen, they could clean up, but that won't happen so well looky here. I can't get to the stove, off to Taco Bell! There's no way Chris has the self awareness to see he did that so I don't mean to imply he plotted it, it just kinda happened and he never caught on to why. It's pretty spooky when you first start seeing how you play games with your own mind and life.
