How do we not have a dedicated Pokemon thread?
Let the spergery commence!
Ceruledge is pretty cool.
I like how when you have to challenge Iona you have to face her army of simps first. I find that hilarious.
Also, Larry is the best NPC in Scarlet and Violet, fight me
I was in a call with a friend when I got to that part so he got to listen to me roast all of them.
That is amazing...
I am also pretty happy that Gamefreak finally used their imposter professor oak concept that they were originally planning for Gen 2 to the point where they made a bunch of cards about him in the TCG.
Shoutout to the Parakeet Gang
Scarlet and Violet are mostly good games. People complain about the graphics but that's more an issue of having to work to deadlines. This game had ambition and tons of it.
This game also appeals to current (Gen Z) cultural trends in a way Pokemon usually doesn't, so I'm not sure how it's going to age.
Also, considering that haircut and there being four forms I'm pretty confident the parakeets are based on the Beatles.
So they made it to appeal to Western audiences despite being made in Japan?
Also what kind of trends?
I mean, from what I see, the cultural trends that are seen in Pokemon are also seen in Japan, it isn't just Western exclusive, they want it to appeal to a wide range of people from different countries after all.
What I meant was what "Zoomer" trends are in the game. I know pocketmons has international appeal, and that pockymon games are released worldwide simultaneously now.
(not like back in the day where the games were Japanese first before getting localized for overseas)
I think he was referring to stuff like one of the gym leaders is a streamer with an army of simps
Yeah basically, also characters consistently describing things as ‘cringe’, using the word ‘slay’ as a positive identifier and a few other examples like that.
None of this is inherently bad, it’s just a different direction for the franchise
That slang and that "army of simps" thing may not sound too enjoyable to me though...
Then again and kind of like @Cyan said, I'm still used to the way it was in the '00s.
I mean, in Diamond and Pearl they used the word "noob" and "owned" regularly too so it isn't new.
gen 6 best gen so far
ORAS best game so far
(yes this is opinion)
I am not so old that I'm about to start hating on harmless Gen-Z trends. I don't remember anybody in the game saying "Slay" or "cringe" in game but I wouldn't fall apart and seethe if I did notice it.
I got my purple dragon-motorcycle, my magical girl looking pokeball throwing animation in terra raids, the ability to catch eeveelutions in the wild, and the ability to go on a pokemon adventure in fantasy-Spain with my actual friends while playing the game. I'm happy with it.
yeah it's not too big of a deal even if it is "cringe"
Is the eastern part all Mediterranean-y like IRL?
Honestly, I don't understand why people get pants-shittingly angry about Pokemon games. I've played at least one version of each mainline game and I've liked all of them.
I also don't see how people can have favorites of a game that whose premise has been the same for like 25 years - You're a kid, you pick one of 3 companions, you go out and catch other Pokemon for research, you battle in gyms, you fight the Elite Four. Lather, rinse, repeat.
It's just silly to me. I just like the games.
To be honest the little features can make a lot of difference. I've got favorites but that's usually because they had smaller little deviances that I liked. I liked the secret base/diving/contest mechanics and the oceanic setting of Ruby and Sapphire. I liked the character customization and the fashion and fairy aesthetic from X and Y. I also had a great time with wonder trade and the GTS in that generation also. Sun and Moon didn't particularly stand out after that, and Sword and Shield felt dull with the "we are England and we are obsessed with football" theme. I already mentioned why I'm having a great time with Violet. I can't even replay the original red/blue games, they are too dull compared to the modern Pokemon games.
