update: I think it is both now. That lolcow has shown interest in "New Age" stuff, and "New Age" is the only belief I know of that not only encourages developing "psychic powers", but also lacks a strict moral code like Abrahamic religions can easily have. For example, "New Age" is less likely to forbid fornication or promiscuity. It can also claim people are (one with) God.

New Age is also free to reject anything that contradicts it and claim that it's Big Academia suppressing the the truth.

I mean you have fringe Christian groups using the same excuses, but these are anti-sex and anti-magick and aren't really pro anything... meaning Chris can't live out a power fantasy (plus they worship the one true God - Pmurt)

Whereas more mainstream Christian groups tend to listen to the sciences with Catholics officially endorsing Evolution and owning Lucifer, one of the world's most powerful telescopes.

So New Age is perfect for Chris and what he wants from faith... mindless self indulgence

Not only that, but "New Age" beliefs can also claim that science and history really agree with "New Age" beliefs, such as crystals having "magic" powers, or Atlantis being real. "New Agers" also like to use science-y sounding terms like "vibration" and "energy", so one who believes in "New Age" can think they're smarter than they are. Sorta like how a certain lolcow tries to sound edumacated by using big words, but ends up sounding stupid. And of course there's the aforementioned and apparent lack of moral code, which can be along with a focus instead on "spiritual platitudes" such as vaguely defined love. Also "reincarnation" is a big part of "New Age" spirituality, which that lolcow has believed in even before he said "meh" to Christianity. So-called "New Age" really does seem like the perfect fit to an egotistical imbecile who wants promiscuity, adultery, and incest to be "okay, well, and good", wants to sound like he's smart, and wants to be God, while thinking this world is full of "psychic powers" and other "magic" ("herp derp just like Mary Poppins and Pokemon!").

Christianity usually teaches serving a more powerful God, rather than becoming God. I've heard Christians argue that "New Age" even echoes what the serpent said in the Garden of Eden. Not good to the bloated ego of a certain lolcow. Also God (and the bear) weren't bringing that lolcow a "Sweetheart from the Ground-Up" while also making the world kiss his ass (ew). No wonder that freak turned to "New Age".

Atlantis, Lemuria, and Mu (fictional places) are actually kind of cool
I don't believe in them, but I can understand why some people would like to believe in long gone utopias

back on topic - I guess Chris's multiple dimensions are a little like a new version of Atlantis, where you can claim anything is happening there

Oh yeah, and another thing of "New Age" that makes it friendly to that lolcow: "New Age" can be very consumerist, what with the books and crystals and outrageous fees for "psychic" services.

There's a similar belief in "New Age": belief in multiple magical "planes" or "vibration levels" of reality.

One example is "astral plane", where more is possible than in this world: where "astral projection" happens.

Back when I was a New Ager, I "knew" all this stuff was real, but I kept trying to astrally project. So many claimed it was easy, but everytime I tried it all I did was have slightly more vivid dreams. I figured I didn't concentrate or enough or I had to be doing somthing wrong.

I knew it was real and the astral plane would await me when I died, but I needed to see it for myself. Especially since everything I loved was magical and everything I hated was of this world, I sincerely wanted to die more than anything.. and honestly I STILL kinda wanna die, I even feel good on a physical level when I think about my own death. It's become my own personal happiness button, just think about death and you calm down!

I actually got paranoid from my failure to astral project, I thought maybe I was defective, that I didn't have a soul.. but if I don't have a soul what happens when I.. AHHH!!!

Recently I actually HAVE gotten it to work, and I realize that these clowns weren't astral projecting, they were lucid dreaming and couldn't tell.

There probably is real "mysticism" and an actual "astral plane" out there, but we can't access it, not directly, not knowingly, and not in this life.

I'm not a New Ager anymore, but if I accepted a purely materialistic view of the world as is common in the nihilism of New Atheism, I'd go madder than Chris. I would gladly go to Hell if it meant my spirit would go on.

However, since I'm someone who has gone through that, I understand what it's like for Chris and I know unlike me he isn't smart enough to escape.

Hell, it took a close friend of mine dying, only for me to get none of the cliches

No showing up in my dreams, no guidance, no odd concidences (outside of nearly getting hit by the same kind of car that killed him, but... that's not a synchronicity that's just fucking [LOCATION REDACTED] drivers being [LOCATION REDACTED] drivers.

I realized he wasn't in a better place, he wasn't watching over me, he was dead....

That said, I did get visions the day before he died (while I was tripping balls admittedly) telling me to let him go (he was in the hospital for awhile he didn't die immediately)

But Chris is too dense for tragedy to pierce his armor, he doesn't even accept the slightest aspect of the finality of Death. Dude was straight up talking about how Billy Mays could "come back someday" if he wanted to, and that was before he went crazy.

I replied in more detail in the beliefs about existence and beyond thread, but in short: ceasing to exist is better than eternal hell.

That freak thinks he's gonna be immortal. Probably thinks "da merge" will happen, making him live forever as a "cartoon pony goddess Christ", without ever dying along the way.

I wonder if that's part of the reason why Gen 5 isn't canon to him.

In Gen 5, Twilight and her friends have been dead for hundreds of years and the world has sort of "moved on" from their teachings (Which isn't comfortable for general fans of Gen 4
    1. Agree to disagree

    2. The merge is currently happening where ever Chris cannot see evidence to the contrary. When he was in prison, the outside world was merging and a picture of a gas station done up like the Kwik-E-Mart as a promotion for the 2007 Simpsons movie was proof, it became a future event when he came out in saw it.

Inevitably the Dimensional Merge will change from a "Merge" to him just falling asleep here and waking up in CWCville instead of "Dying"

If he was more into animu, he might wish he was isekai'd into the dystopian hellscape of "CWCville".

That's one way I could easily see this ending sadly, that he watches an Isekai Anime, becomes obsessed with it (Would be easy, just show him one with hot girls) and thinks the universe is telling him to abandon his mortal body in order to go to CWCville, just as Christ died on the cross to return to his heavenly father.

Keep in mind, this is the same guy who wanted to tase himself to awaken and prove his electric pokemon powers.

Closest I could think of Chris actually running into an Isekai situation is in the anime "Uncle from another world"

Cringe Autistic Virgin obsessed with Sega Consoles dies and goes to a Fantasy World where he's just as reviled, but now he has super powers so they're stuck with him... At the start of the series he finally finds his way back to Earth, which results in him suddenly waking up from a coma in a hospital, now being cared for by his nephew who he keeps making trouble for... The Uncle's main character traits are his powers, his insistence that Youtube worship him, and him living in denial of the Sega Saturn being a dead console.
(For the record: We know his fantasy world is real because we see flashbacks to it, and he still has his powers in the real world.. and yes if the Chris parallels weren't strong enough, one of his powers is turning into his alternate persona, a cute elf girl)

I remember maybe 10 years ago people on CWCki Forum/early KF were saying there was a Stephen King Gunslinger novel where the protagonist kills themself to get to different levels
fortunately, I don't think Chris is interested in reading anything other than Goosebumps

Which he'd read in class, while mentally substituting the characters with Sonic the Hedgehog characters.

    Hey guys -

Start a new discussion if you want to talk about New Age stuff.

Tangential "What if" scenarios should be posted in the "What if" thread or "Random Thoughts and Questions".

Since there hasn't been any new discussion about the video or Chris having psychic powers, I'm going to lock it, as it had been dead for 2 years and didn't need to be necro'd.
