Which raises the question what kind of anime would have a guy wearing that.

 

I kinda remember chris got the outfit from some guy in Excel Saga who Chris was unnerved by.

 

Figures it was Excel Saga. Sonichu draws heavily from it.

Certainly was the greatest thing since sliced q-sands to Chris, though I don't suppose he could be bothered to pick up the manga anyway.

The CWCki goes into good detail on the show to mention how much liberties were taken when they adapted the original manga and adding in things like having the director self-insert himself as a character in the show or having Excel being told to kill the original creator in the first episode. The anime blazed its own trail far from the monthly installments the manga had to deal with. I used to read the manga back when VIZ was publishing those books but I never finished it beyond the first dozen volumes or so, though I see it finally wrapped up back in 2011 so I'm about halfway done to see where it leads to.
