I'm in that same boat. This was a girl's thing obviously and it held nothing to my interest besides having a sis who was into them during the mid 80's (and cutting their hair off my mistake, like all girls did to their dolls when they wanted to do actual haircuts). The "Friendship is Magic" incarnation could've stayed the same way had it not been for the rise of Bronydom.

The games aren't really worth it, except the original Mega Drive/Genesis titles, anything else was beating a dead horse in terms of marketbility and longevity. I'm only glad Chris didn't ruin Mario or Zelda for me (haven't been at those classics for years but glad they don't have the same illness that Sonic does)!

Certainly his claim to fame, but not one that should be encouraged.

 

I don't know why Sonic is still so popular after all the shitty games. The last one I tried was SA2 on GameCube, thought it was terrible.

 

That's actually a good question. Even though it wasn't a question, but you get my point. It seems like things are getting a bit better, but things have been pretty bad for a while. I was a fan back in the day, and it does still have a bit of nostalgic appeal to me, but I'm not blind to the faults at all.

 

I will never forget getting my Genesis and Sonic on Christmas morning. At some point the fan base went from everyone being casual fans and enjoying the game to a weird hardcore cringe group who is obsessed and doesn't seem to mind if the games are awful.

 

Nastolgia is a powerful drug.

 

Yeah, I'm not sure where that came from. I think I might've gotten into the stuff when the fanbase started getting bad too, not that I would've really known that at the time.
