It is sad and pathetic. the hypocrisy is so intense that even Pope Francis said it is better to be an atheist than a greedy christian. He was addressing this to Catholics, but I admit that for the highest authority of Catholicism to admit vaguely that even atheists are better than some Christians is something every Christian should be aware of, not just Catholics, but Protestants and even the Eastern Orthodox

 

I get endless amusement from the fact that the Landover crew know the bible and associated history better than any Christian or religious group I've come across.

Christian is such a broad category though, like if you define "Christian" as "Someone who believes that god of the bible, YHVH, is the one true god who sent his son, the Nazarene Jesus Christ, to both lead humanity towards him and give up his life to forgive mankind of its sins" then everything from the Manson family to Mormons are Christian sects, and I think most rational people would recognize that the Mansons aren't representative of Christians as a whole. So while Chick's brand of evangelicals say a lot of stupid hateful shit, I think most people recognize they don't speak for all Christians.

I also think that while it's fun to read and laugh at chick tracts, they also present an alternative view in a way that's simple enough to understand that even when you disagree with it, you can outline why you think it's wrong. You can point out the flaws in their world view and show why those beliefs should be rejected, which I think it's probably more important for Christians, especially Christian parents, than it is for non-believers. You can use them to show how even innocent beliefs can be twisted to support bigotry or crackpot ideas, and use it as a way to teach your kids how they can be misled or manipulated by people who claim to have their best interests at heart.

 

I am a nonbeliever, but i define christians as those who follow the Bible's scripture and use it to help those in need (helping the poor and fighting injustice are two important examples)

There is a great deal of christians who allege to do good but in reality, they are hateful to non white christians in blatant defiance of "love thy enemy", hoard wealth if they are rich, the list goes on with these "christians". I have met christians who remind me that not all of them are hateful people, but i struggle constantly with Christianity because of all of the hateful people in it such as Jack Chick

 

You know how extremist Muslim terrorists make Islam look bad? I think it's the same with hypocritical and hateful Christians and Christianity.

 

yes, but since this thread was about a christian fundamentalist, I didn't talk about that. But all in all, I won't give a shit if you're Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Zoroastarian, or any other religion as long as you don't use it to cause harm.

I try to be the same way to be honest when it comes to religion, I have a long way to go for politics however

 

I say an important thing to understand is that while all religions contain assholes, some have creeds that encourage more assholishness than others and likewise the founding philosophies of some political movements are inherently worse than others.

NAMBLA is always going to have worse goals than the NRA, for instance, even if you're generally live and let live about sex and support gun restriction laws.

I think it's kinda cute. Of course they have to throw in anti-abortion stuff at the beginning. This is one of the softer tracts, like "Unloved" (the guy grows up to be a literal cuck and disowned by his parents, he's dying of cancer and is about to jump off a bridge when a Chickite Christian witnesses to him and he gets saved).

Maybe the Chickites are going to soften their approach now that Chick is (allegedly) in heaven?

But yeah, when the Chick tract artists try to draw cutesy things or kids it looks kinda creepy.
