From staff (meaning @Liquid Squirtle wrote it, @Glaive edited it, and I posted it so as to feel like I contributed in some manner. And to steal credit if people like the idea):

    Hello all,

As you may have noticed, the forum structure has changed around a fair bit and you're probably wondering what's going on. Staff has been considering making changes for some time, and we are now at a point where we can officially unveil the new layout. Moving forward, we're going to be shifting from our original intention of the club being about Christian Weston Chandler to one that's focused on following obscure and So-Bad-It's-Good media as a whole.

What do we mean by this? Basically anything that you can think of that falls into the realm of cult classic material that is by an objective standpoint fairly bad, but we like it anyways just because we're able to laugh at it together. Movies like The Room, the works of Neil Breen, Miami Connection, Samurai Cop, or Foodfight. Or even really old VHS tapes of pretty much anything (public access shows, PSAs, whatever). There are way too many examples for a comprehensive list, but think along the lines of Red Letter Media's Best of the Worst/Wheel of the Worst and Everything is Terrible. The so-bad-its-good mentality of course extends past videos and into music (the Shaggs are a good example, as are half the songs that come from Eurovision), comics like Chick Tracts or any number of bad webcomics, and books like Maradonia. Or fanfiction. So, so much fanfiction.

We want to move in this direction because of the many similarities between this and laughing at lolcows. The cult classic cringe element is what brought many of us together to follow Chris' antics in the first place. The site still encourages and has room for the same discussion-style threads, but will also present opportunities for plenty of community-generated content through forms such as remixes, parody videos, audiobooks, reviews, or planned events like movie nights.

While we'll still end up chatting about people who may be considered lolcows, the main difference here is that the focus is on the product itself rather than the person behind it. There will of course be overlap when the awfulness of the person is inseparable from the product, such as when they've produced a self-insert comic or story. The transition to this new format is a work in progress and this thread will serve as the hub for discussion about it. Please lend us your input and we'll regularly update here with any major changes.

Thank you for your time, and we hope everyone enjoys the new direction!

Possibly at some point in the future, but for now we're going to focus on getting content rolling before cosmetic changes.

If you stick around and post, I see no reason why you'd make a bad moderator. Though you might have some competition if that Wangler fellow ever comes around. Promises may have been made.

I'm curious, why did you decide to change focus?

Short answer- Chris is slowing down a bit with age, and we wanted excuses to post fun goofy shit and read about fun goofy shit other people know about.

To keep more KF people around should we allow some lolcow related stuff?

Please do. I need a place to laugh at angry spastics on the internet.

I think we should but we should be very firm about moderating to prevent drama around users, perhaps making the threads unindexed could keep the drama down

The Sonichu comic was my favorite part of following Chris anyway. It's awful content like that which I always wanted more of.

How about Chris only? When KF shifted away from Chris and toward other cows that was the beginning of the end.

Would Assigned Male fall under being so-bad-it's-good, or would that be pushing things?

I would hope that Manic Pixie Nightmare Girls would qualify...it was a much more fun read and set itself up for funnier edits IMO.

As far as lolcow stuff, I think we'll want to keep it to Chris for the moment. That doesn't mean that book/Youtube/comic series by people who happen to be lolcows aren't fair game, though.

    admiral Don't you like Bourbon?

The discussion of other cows brought in a lot of people from other forums and communities, so it lost its identity somewhat. I remember when I joined KF in 2013 it was real small and the tone was a lot less angry than it became in recent years. I suppose because it was mostly people who were interested in Chris and had already followed him, as opposed to randoms off tumblr attracted by outside drama.

    ToroidalBoat ¿qué?

I like how this place doesn't have post ratings. Less potential for drama. Especially on a small board.

For now I say just Chris content. There's more sites dedicated to lolcow discussion so maybe leave it as it is for now.
