Yesterday Chris posted an unfinished (or at least uncolored) Sonichu 0 HD comic page on Twitter, where in the same post he also said "YES, Everyone, I am still doing the comics.". This is particularly interesting to see come out of nowhere right now of all times for a number of reasons.

Up until now, despite Sonichu being an obsession in his mind that never left him, many of us had assumed Chris was done making more Sonichu comics, and no longer had the drive to continue making them and posting them online. According to Chris, that isn't the case at all, and he's going to continue the comic. If Sonichu 0 HD is any indication, probably starting with remakes of the old ones from 2004-2010 with retellings of the same stories. They appear to be drawn with either a black pen or a mechanical pencil.

Another interesting thing to note is despite the fact he's been out of contact with Megan since the spring of 2008, Chris is still using a heavily anime-influenced art style reminiscent of the one he started using in the earlier Sonichu comics during his friendship with Megan.

 

Just a reminder for everyone to not bug me about posting anymore of the comic.

 

Huh, this seems to be new artwork, and it actually looks decent compared to the original.

I thought Chris said he'd never reboot the series because it would "destroy the timeline and kill everyone", wonder what changed.

 

So, since that's obviously not Chris' art style, who's drawing this?

 

Chris technically is drawing it, he's just tracing a more talented person's artwork. So in other words Chris is engaging in art theft, in a very predictable twist of fate.

 

If he thinks the comics as he draws them are "perfect", then why is he aping comics by others?

I like how when plagiarizing her work, Chris felt the need to change Rosechu's "Hot Chick" dress in Trickie's comic to say "Hotter Chick" in his version. Just in case we were lacking any recent displays of Christian's bloated ego.

 

The ego of that lolcow is so fat it has the ego equivalent of diabetes.

 

Plagiarizing fanfiction of your own characters is next-level genius.

 

I bet you in Chris's mind, if he created the characters, then it doesn't count as plagiarism when he steals fan art.

 

Yeah, it does make kind of a weird loop. Like, is it really plagiarism if the person was plagiarizing you and you plagiarize them back?

 

Chris obviously follows Murderface Logic in that "If I could have come up with that, then it obviously means that I DID come up with that."

 

A lot of this reminds me of Chris's old mentality on parodies like 14 years ago. Where he would defend Sonichu as being a parody, and condemn Asperchu for being a "parody of a parody".

A significant difference is Chris actually seems to like Trickie's Sonichu comics unlike Asperchu and Moon Pals. To the point of tracing them and copy and pasting their plotlines.

 

I'm disappointed that no one ever asked him what he thought a parody was, as he clearly isn't using it the same way everyone else is.

Yes yes, the whole "Sonichu is obviously not satirical of the Sonic series." observation, but when Chris calls Alec he labels Asperchu a parody yes, but he asks if it's meant to be a parody of Happy Tree Friends, which Alec claims never to heard of. When Alec has Chris explain, Chris reveals he came to this conclusion based on how much violence there is in the Asperchu comics...

So it's clear he doesn't understand a parody is meant to mock the original, and seems to believe it's some kind of "Allowable Imitation"

 

It's true what the CWCki said about Chris's understanding of "parody": Even Seltzer and Friedberg have a better understanding of parody.

 

That scans, Meet The Spartans is a guilty pleasure of mine, I can't say there's anything in Sonichu I like in that way. I rarely read Sonichu beyond quick read-throughs to get into Chris' headspace, it's just not an enjoyable comic by any measure. It's not even enjoyably bad or so bad it's good. Then again that's my subjective opinion, I wasn't that fond of Tails Gets Trolled (Which is considered a parody of Sonichu) either.

Ya know we're so negative about Chris all the time, it'd be nice to take time at some point and look at the positives. I mean there aren't many of them, but searching the mines for Gold is more fun and rewarding than collecting plentiful rocks. I mean, when the PS3 servers were still up I actually liked playing as Chris-Chan's Sonichu characters, they were more convincing and well-done than anything I could have made with the game's tools.

I do like CWCville conceptually as this sort of reverse Silent Hill, a magical, wonderful place where your dreams really do come true. Only Chris has taken charge of it and although he intends to be just and selfless, his warped view of the world prevents him from being able to differentiate between vice and virtue. With Sonichu being pretty much braindead, the very definition of "Good Is Dumb", having nothing but a childlike obedience to Chris with an even lessened ability to tell the difference between good and evil. Sonichu desires to be a good person, but he's unable to think for himself and can only see good and evil through whatever context Chris-Chan allows him to be.

But while that idea is suggested in Sonichu we don't really get an execution that reflects that beyond the CWCki reading too much into things. The comic itself is nothing more than the insane ramblings of a madman about people who he feels wronged him and what media he's obsessed with at the time.

I've considered writing stories and at one point tried making an RPG that explores that concept, but ultimately I just didn't think it was worth it. The RPG looked great, but sadly it attracted the wrong kind of attention so I deleted everything. (Kinda wish I had kept better back-ups, but my backup was on Mega Upload about a month before it got shut down by the feds)

I tried remaking the RPG out of boredom, but I ultimately decided that the only value it would have would be as a Christorical Period Piece.

Anyway, getting back to the comic, I really don't understand the point. It seems like it's just a retelling of some fancomic, but using the same dialogue and same panels as a fanwork. Wouldn't it just be easier to just declare that fanwork canon and make something original?

Yes I understand Chris-Chan and originality don't go together, but I'm reminded of my own middle school years where a friend of mine and I would write scripts we called "Chatrooms" of fictional characters talking to one other to try to make each other laugh. A few times I was stumped for jokes and just repeated skits from shows I had seen that I knew most kids my age at the time hadn't. (Red Dwarf was a common one), but each time, I just felt myself geting bored because all I was doing was reciting things that already existed. I wasn't just stealing jokes and using them in a new context, but entire scripts word-for-word. This forced me to be more original as I just found plagiarism wasn't fun or worthwhile even if the skits were funny to my audience.

Surely Chris must experience the same boredom, I mean he's an autist.. err.. I mean aritst. Isn't there a part of him with a geniune love for the joy of creation? I mean there's ripping something off sure, but hey you know the old saying.. "Good artists borrow and Great artists steal", but copying someone else's work verbatim and saying it is of your own invention can't possibly be giving him any dopamine. I mean even the most prolific plagiarism scandal in the gaming industry (Limbo of the Lost) still had a world, story, and characters all its own even if it repurposed every asset from other media and every ripoff mockbuster at least tries to some extent to do its own thing... But, a clone this 1:1, it just... How does this do anything for him?

 

It shouldn't take years to copy someone else's comic.

 

I guess you could say Chris is slow-on-the-time. Okay I apologize for that one, that was fucking bad lol.
