Star Wars

Kind of surprised that we have a Star Trek thread, but not Star Wars. I recently just watched Backstroke of the West, and now I feel like talking about Star Wars.

 

Are the prequels still canon? Or was it just the EU stuff that got axed?

 

I assumed they were.

 

Once upon a time, A New Hope was the only Star Wars movie in the series, and was just called Star Wars. What if it stayed that way?

The Cleaver Of Continuity really changed Star Wars just like he did Star Trek. On the plus side, some of the more laughable stuff from what's now "Legends" can't be canon anymore.

 

Just the EU, prequals and 4-7 are still it.

So much of the EU was poorly done trash. I remember reading a lot of it in middle school, X wing book series was fun Thrawn Trilogy was the only good one I can remember honestly. When a middle school nerd stops reading an EU, it's something to worry about. I'm very upset they put Thrawn back in for the kids show were he's like Dr. Claw instead of the real badass he was. I rather he just stay out of the new canon.

Now, for the poll choice, I picked other, as I think my favorite SW stuff, is the vidya. X wing was amazing, I think Tie Fighter also had one of the best stories (better than the last few films honestly) The Dark Forces series, how that got stolen from for the last film was upsetting to say the least. For film, my favorite would have to be a new hope.

 

Anyone else see this one movie from the 1980s that's set on the forest moon of Endor?

Ewok Adventure?

 

Yeah, I think that's it. I saw it when I was a kid so memory of it is really fuzzy.

 

I bought that as a kid. I remember watching it and simultaneously being disappointed and not at the same time because some parts were hilariously bad.

I think you are talking about that for kids Ewok adventure thing, or making a stab at ROTJ.
The Ewoks were awful, we all agree. If they weren't so laughable, the concept imho was solid. Let's replace them with another primitive species, like the Wookies. Had they went against the empire with sharp sticks guerilla war tactics it woulda been bad ass. And if it wasn't tailored to kids, seeing a grenade maul a half dozen would add to the grit but also show how pitched the victory was as well as helping undo the altering power/usefulness of the storm troopers. As off screen they are called the strongest and most cold blooded killers but any time we see them they are a step above Larry Moe and Curly (or Shemp if you rather) with blasters so the main characters don't get killed.

Now I don't think the wookies proper would be a good fit, just use a new species but one that doesn't make you want to hug it and give to a 5 year old as a first pet.

 

I remember laughing at the special effects as a kid, but I actually haven't watched it in years, so I'm not sure if they're as bad as I remember.

 

Since the new trilogy is a rehash of 4-6 does this mean we'll be getting a modern version of the Holiday Special?

 

I hope so

 

Of course, you'd have to call it the Star Wars Non-Denominational Winter Special to avoid offending anyone nowadays.

 

Something I have found that makes watching Episode II more bearable (if you marathon the movies like I do) is pretending that Anakin is a high-functioning autistic. The movie suddenly becomes a lot funnier.

 

But everybody in the prequels is a retard anyway

 

Star Wars is the only popular space franchise I know of that's explicitly set who knows how long ago* in a galaxy so far away it's fictional. Others like the future Milky Way galaxy and that one planet with bagels.

Was it in 1997, 20 years after the first movie was released, they had the three movies in theaters. Does anyone remember that, Lucas said he wanted to release them in theaters for a new generation (and to make mad money).
