    The works of Coleman Francis should be well known to anyone perusing this sort of site, but for any who don't have a detailed knowledge of his works let this thread serve as your master class in bad filmmaking. All three of his movies are utter crap, and his trademark was excessively long shots of people getting into cars and driving away. Needless to say, MST3k had a field day with his movies, which are the videos posted in this thread since posting the movies without riffs to break the torment would require special clearance from the Environmental Protection Agency.

    For the experienced, I'd love to hear any stories about your exposure to his crap, opinions about it, or insights you may have.







    Fun fact: his last credit as an actor was "Rotund Drunk" in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Roger Ebert's sole foray into film writing, and a movie almost as spectacularly shitty as any Francis made himself.

    I've yet to see The Skydivers but I've uh..."experienced" the other two on MST3K. I have to admit that I legitimately love the song right at the begining of Red Zone Cuba. Rest of the movie, not so much.

    My first exposure was through MST3K and two of them (Red Zone Cuba and The Beast of Yucca Flats) have got to be among the five worst movies featured on the show. All of his movies are like what Manos would be without Torgo; bizarre little tone poems of despair.

    I don't think any of them originally ran for more than a few days at SoCal drive-in theaters. I was completely and utterly stoned the first time I saw the MST version of Beast of Yucca Flats, and I couldn't figure out why they were making fun of a beautifully minimalist art house film. "Flag on the moon. How did it get there?" Sheer poetry!

    Slightly off-topic, but I think that Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls must have haunted Ebert in some form until the day that he died.
