I don't hang out in bookstores as much now as I did in the '00s...

Remember the "Atkins Diet" craze and the obsession with "carbs"?

I don't hang out in bookstores like I did before the pandemic
and for whatever reason, boomers like to be loud in them :(
but I still hang out in the cafe at the bookstore fairly often, just like I go to the library fairly often

Well, there still is the obsession with carbs, it just goes by the name keto now. It was essentially a precursor to the keto diet.

As for bookstores, I have a local one that is nice, I haven't been there in ages. I might go there again for something to do. It is just parking downtown is a bit tricky in the summer.

they were interviewing someone in the bookstore cafe and the manager said the Christmas season is their busiest time of the year
that's the only time parking is a problem, and they stayed open till midnight in December before the pandemic

I found the story quite captivating. Especially because it was based upon the life of Alexander Selkirk, a Scotsman which voluntarily stranded himself upon an island in the pacific ocean. Crusoe embarks on many adventures (throughout the novel he's a prominent plantation owner in Brazil, a slave, the governor of his own island, a trekker through alpine slopes), and is an ingenious survivalist. Which keeps it interesting, because he's either doing something like domesticating goats, or building shelters or rescuing people.
You're referencing his racism, right? I had issues with that, especially because it rubs off in his work (in Robinson Crusoe at the very least). And although it was the attitude of the time, many of his contemporaries were nonetheless ardent emancipationists.

Today I am converting to Vorinism from the Stormlight Archives. I need to find a glove for my left hand. I also need to mock every man here for knowing how to read and write. It's against my religion for today.

I bought a copy of Jurassic Park since my original one is lost to the sands of time, was supposed to arrive today, went to my local post office where they promptly sent it to a city an hour and a half away.

Amazing that errors like that can still happen in the so-called Information Age.

Books with no pictures are like the print equivalent of audiobooks?
