Anyone remember Skylanders?

Being the womanchild that I am, I was into the toy/video game hybrid phase known as Skylanders.

For those who don't remember it was a failed Spyro The Dragon Reboot that upon pissing off the Spyro fanbase via redesign, decided to just rebrand as its own thing that just so happened to have Spyro in it. It was a scheme where you had to buy physical toys in order to play a video game, which Nintendo and Disney shamelessly stole to make Amiibo and Disney Infinity.

Well recently it was discovered you could spoof the RFID of the figures and just play the game that way. Which is good for freaks like me who want to revisit their nostalgia, but don't want to spend on a fortune on figures.

I gotta say, it's been a real treat being able to play the Skylanders series and judge it on its merits as a game, instead of as an "aside" to building a figure collection. Turns out when you remove the paywall, the series is legitimately amazing. Not mind blowing, but given how dead 3D Platformers were in the 2010's, a godsend to people like me who live for this shit.

Anyway.. The last game in the series, Imaginators, let you make your own Skylanders, but you had to buy a creation crystal (That you couldn't reset without using exploits) for every one you wanted to make.

Since I have unlimited ones, I've just been screwing around and seeing what I can make. Most of it has been me screwing around with it.

Now knowing Chris is Chris, I figured he'd be into Skylanders too. So I decided to do some research to see if he made any Sonichu content via Imaginators, or just did any cringe Chris-Chan stuff in general

And lo and behold; he did!



Apparently he refused to give out the "Creation Code" or whatever that'd let other people make this painfully generic character because he wanted people to BUY toys of the character from him.

Well that's lame, greedy, and stupid, but it's not insurmountable, I could easily just make the character myself and put it up for DL for weens to download and enjoy if I really wanted to.

Do I really want to? Not really that sounds lame, boring, and I'd have to keep unlocking stuff until I had all the parts.

But I will share this, it's a Mary Lee Walsh I made, based on her portrayal in Sonichu The Animated Series. A Sorcerer of the Dark Element.

I just figured you'd guys would think it was neat, and/or wanna share your own experiences with Skylanders.

I'll also take suggestions if you, for whatever reason, wanna see my attempt at making other Sonichu Characters in this failed children's cashgrab from in ye olden times of 2016. I thought about making a Liquid or Classic Chris, but I haven't found a striped enough torso.

 

I never got into skylanders but I did get into those amiibo things for a little bit

 

Yeah, I didn't get into it myself because I didn't want a game that needed me to buy so much.

But then later I did because I realized I liked the characters and my mindframe switched to "I can collect these figures, and there's a game I can play with them as a little bonus"

Yeah, I think I recall watching chris live streams back in the mid 2010s where he was playing that shit and selling figures too. Hard to believe that skyalnders was over 10 years ago, could swear that it was just yesterday when these things were coming out.

I will say that using a wii-u emulator to play those games and using it's RFID emulation functionality has unlocked so many things that I missed out on in the past because fuck no I'm not going to spend 20 bucks on a figure; just not my thing.
