There's actually a free flash fan-game out there called "Sonic: After the Sequel" which is much better than any sonic crap that SEGA has put out in over 2 decades. I'd say it's arguably better than the Genesis games for that matter, though the overall gameplay is still along the same lines:

For anyone who actually likes the Sonic games, I urge them to check out Freedom Planet if they haven't already. Allegedly (and I believe this due to the character design) it was once a sonic fangame before they decided to make the characters original and sell it. Either way, it's not bad and pretty good.

 

I heard of Freedom Planet, the gameplay looked decent, though the voice acting was really annoying, and made me think of a Powerpuff Girls video game for tween girls, so that turned me off.

For that matter, if there are any old school Sega fans here, there's also a free Streets of Rage: Remake fan game which is better than the originals and better than Sega remake which was apparently in the works but scrapped:

Only one I've played is Shadow the Hedgehog, which was god awful.

 

Granted, this would probably be more fitting for a thread on bad knockoff flash games (like the Frozen and Zootopia ones), but this could very well be the work of an autist into sanic. I mean, it even has it's own "original" characters, for god's sake.
It says something when fan works look no different from bootleg flash games.

I once made a trollfic-tier Sonic OC when goofing off with my little brothers and playing with LEGO toys. He was named Gruckles because he was a green Knuckles. Turns out, he was actually fairly decent for a sonic OC...

Anyone wonder why there doesn't seem to be nearly as high a level of autistic Mario fandom as there is Sonic?

Sure if you search the back-alleys of the internet you can find weird stuff like "Princess Peach Rule 34", but overall there doesn't seem to be nearly as much of an obsessive subculture, even though Mario does fit the "cheerful, cartoony style" that seems to characterize a lot of these autistic fandoms such as Sonic, Pokemon, MLP, etc.
