chris was allowed a free ticket to graduation after four years. Apparently chris was seen as a warm body to move through school under the no child left behind policy.

What happened is an under equipped person in real life.

 

The fact that theres a small probabilty that he could be faking his autism and he is actually a horrible person

 

Bob was a dried up old husk full of equal parts paranoia and hillbilly meanness. Barb was and is a squirming mess of antiquated notions and incipient Alzheimers. Chris is autistic. Not much more to it than that.

Well, Chris's reluctance to get a job is based on his misconception that he's famous. The internet knows him, therefore everyone knows him. There's also the contradiction that he can't get a job because of the trolls, yet he has -snerk- legions of fans -barely constrained laughter- which are definite clues to his bloated, sun bleached ego. In his mind, he'll be harassed by trolls at work... and he's not entirely wrong. You could bet that weens would frequent that store and try to set him off.

Do I think he should get a job? Yes, I also think he should be forced into the military so he can have big scary men scream at him to put down the crayons and man up but they both have the same likelihood at this point in chris's life (ain't gonna happen.)

But Bob's an interesting point someone brought up. We know Chris's early years (both in life, and as he started being troll fodder) that american rabbit and Bob's conservatism colored his views. Bob's fears of Barb's hoard being discovered and the house being condemned were real concerns for the family, and perhaps someone could clue me in about the man; is there any clue that he was abusive like Barb is/was? I know Chris was neglected and spoiled, but I chalk that up to Barb's coddling.

 

That and CWC is exteremely lazy and a job -- even just volunteering or community service -- is a stressful change to the routine of toys, video games, and McDonald's. Changes in routine and autism don't mix well.

 

There's no denying that. Why work when you can sit at home and collect a paycheck from the government? Now that he thinks he can have kids, Chris's lifelong goal is to be a welfare queen.

 

Abusive might not be the word. He apparently picked at Chris a lot, starting arguments. The current state of the cwcki article is written from the same POV as Cole's was in the early days, meaning they're taking a super favorable, dick sucking view of him. I do basically remember Bob being pretty oblivious to how he should deal with his son given he had autism, outside of "keep him from being a source of shame". Starting arguments constantly with someone who has an obsessive or literal mind, as well as regularly raising your voice, probably isn't the best way to deal with a child you believe to be autistic, but whatever, far more competent parents than him fall into similar traps.

But, again, looking at the THATS MY HOUSE video, I would imagine the parent of an autistic person would figure he should just cut the internet down permanently, since the child is exposing the family to adverse ramifications. A person with that condition just doesn't know any better. Why he didn't simply cancel the internet service, then, is beyond me. It's a weird double-think; he knows his kid is a fuck up, but it seems like in the back of his head, especially when he's irritated with him, he still holds to that old world view that people can just "stop" having mental problems.

Also, it's pretty telling none of his other children, including his step child Cole, were on speaking terms with Bob. Cole apparently didn't like his conservative leanings, or his personality in general. He was 17 when he first met him and had been dealing with his mother's unstable partners for most of his life, so take that with a grain of salt. Still, it's quite a feat to alienate yourself from most of your immediate family.

 

Where does Chris get this misconception that he's famous? He's not even a nominee for best C-ville local minor celebrity.

 

The same place he gets the misconception that he sounds like Frank Sinatra.

Chris honest to God thinks that by posting a few pictures of his OC to a personal webpage in 2000 and then doing nothing to promote it to the internet at large for four years made it famous.

I imagine his logic was something like "Sonic is famous and popular. Pokemon is famous and popular. If I combine the two, the result will be SUPER ULTRA MEGA POPULAR!"

I don't suppose it helped that trolls kept posing as fans either.
At various points he's been told that there are forums full of people who are fans of Sonichu. The mixture of naivety, gullibility, ego, and autism caused him to swallow this nonsense without a second thought.

 

Bob seemed very much to me like the oblivious old man who can't work his newfangled non-rotary phone, so I can sorta make the argument that he trusted chris to handle the damning walk-through of their house, but to trust chris with any task at all is a huge mistake. As his father, Bob should have known that. Or maybe he just forgot. I did catch that he was clearly oblivious to a lot of things, parenting and technology among them, but given that he had to help conceal the hoard, its no surprise that he would behave so insular.

I actually was not aware he had other children (Cole not included, obviously), and yeah, the fact that they weren't on speaking terms would indeed provide some insight... or perhaps they just really disliked Barb and that's another travesty to lay at her feet. the more I learn about Barb and chris the more I feel bad for Bob. He was no innocent in the Chandler household, but he seemed to be a hard working man who was looking forward to his retirement before chris was born. Combine Barb's hoard bringing in disease, insects, and rodents, a lifetime of labor, Barb's toxic attitude, and the stress of raising a child he cannot understand, its no shock that Bob was the first to croak. Despite how he might have been, I do see him as the real victim of the saga of Chris (besides the animals that live in that hellhole).

Chris is a victim too, but like someone else stated: he's an adult now and he's chosen to double down. he's made the choice to not improve so I don't see a reason to feel very sorry for him.
