    I just want to note about the Avatar bit, but if I do recall, James Cameron explicitly wanted to make Avatar a five part story from the very beginning.

    The only catch, however, is that after the first one finished, he insisted on writing the screenplays for the remaining four films before beginning any production on them. So, James Cameron has apparently spent the last eight years writing them all at once before allowing anyone to actually produce anything for it. I think he was supposed to have finished writing them this or last year, and only now is the second movie supposed to be in preproduction.
