Fond memories of crazy fundies claiming the books taught kids to idolize witchcraft and other Satantic practices. Somewhere in my hoard of old VHS tapes I have a few religious programs on the subject, both retail and recorded from TV.

Around the same time there was a "satanic panic" in America about Pocketmons too.

They also didn't like Yu-gi-oh either because of all the egyptian mythology shit, even 4Kids changing Black Magician to Dark Magician didn't stop them.

Wasn't there some crazy fundamentalist back in the 1980s that wrote a book all about how saturday morning cartoons are converting kids to Satanism, or am I gaslighting myself again?

I am pretty sure there was, it seems to ring a bell, either that or it could have just been someone who hated Saturday Morning Cartoons and just wasn't Christian. I know there was a lot of push back about Saturday Morning cartoons with parents since they felt like they were rotting their kid's brains out and they demanded more educational programming to the point laws were passed endangering Saturday Morning cartoons

Yup, it kind of sucks because all of these anti-Saturday morning cartoon people killed Saturday morning cartoons. Though other factors like the fact that there were now channels dedicated to cartoons (though Saturday morning they'd always release new episodes and it was considered their prime time) and later streaming and stuff where you can watch them at any time with no need to wait until Saturday.

I guess Saturday morning cartoons would eventually die anyways.

The only thing that's changed is people are now more honest about their prejudices. Satanic Panic got replaced by QAnon 'woke' panic. They're fully admitting that they don't like media because it has racial minorities and LGBT people instead of making up some pretense like they were in the 90's.

Not getting too into politics, but there's a definite push by the MSM to push far leftism. Having minorities in media before "culture wars" was more "natural" - or at least to me it was. Yet there is also a definite rise in conservative thought that may be a tad too extreme. And both left and right politics can be cult-y these days, just like the '80s and '90s "satanic panic"...

We knew about it the first time there was a transfer. Was that before or after the sealing? If before, we probably wouldn't.

It's not like it would really make a difference unless you wanted to visit/mail something. Which is pretty lame in the first place.

Seems to be the case! I made a short post in the general thoughts thread but I'd totally blanked on today being a case day for Chris. I'm so used to nothingburgers and continuances that I no longer get my hopes up for major updates. There's apparently a more significant case review of some sort scheduled for August? So maybe at the end of summer there will be something substantial.

According to the email exchange with Praetor Chris apparently has a beard now? I wonder if we'll see it if the jail ever takes an updated mugshot. When was the last one taken? A year ago? Do jails normally update their mugshots for people that are incarcerated? I usually stay on the good side of the law so I have no idea. They say Chris is only allowed to shave under strict supervision. I wonder if he still dry shaves like he did in that old video where he shaved off that nasty goatee in his bedroom.

Also Praetor teased Chris making a "comeback" to the internet saying he's had plenty of time while in jail to write. I hope it's not more boring Merge/Jesus bullshit.
