Down the Rabbit Hole (Fred Knudsen)

Searched and didn't find a thread about this guy and his series of videos. Surprised since he's right up our alley, so I thought I'd start off with his classic Sonichu/Chris Chan video. All other content old and new is ripe for discussing.

 

I love Frederick's Down The Rabbit Hole. The wait between videos is well worth it for his content and the quality of it

 

Indeed. One of the worst features of Youtube's infamously bad algorithm is it encourages low (or medium) effort content produced regularly over singular polished gems.

I'm not saying there's no place in the world for easily produced content, some of my favorite stuff is relatively simple to make, but it just runs roughshod over some really good stuff that doesn't get a chance.

The Time Cube video is one of my personal favorites, filled in whole dimensions of the story I never knew. I am so old I remember going to the Time Cube site back in the day, that thing was a trip.

 

his Terry Davis video is good



Terry Davis (1969-2018) was a severely mentally ill programmer who invented TempleOS. He was fairly lucid until the mid 90s, and was unemployed and on a tugboat for the rest of his life. He was run over by a train last August, and it's unknown whether it was a suicide or accident because he was very mentally ill at the time of his death.

Needless to say, his video gets pretty dark towards the end.

My own personal favourite is the one about the Collyer brothers. I feel so bad for them when I watch Knudsen's video on them. I think he did a great job at humanising them. Come to think of it, almost all of his videos do a good job of uncovering the people underneath.

 

Henry Darger and The Final Fantasy House were both awesome episodes

 

The Empress Theresa one was also pretty good. What can I say, I'm a sucker for delusional artists and writers!
