    This is a group for playing the original Doom online. Feel free to share your favorite wads, tcs, and mods, or even just talk about Doom. We could even set this up as a regular thing. Tell me what you think.

    As far as WADs go, I remember trying a few that tried to change the game beyond just new levels. Though people mention Brutal Doom, one mod I enjoy that's similar in being a conversion is the Diaz wad. Enemies are all changed to being more of humans with various guns, your character is three women that look the same and a guy, and enemies are actually randomized when you start a new game.

    It was just the sounds that were replaced, no new sprites or anything like that, but I can post it tomorrow.

    I haven't actually had a chance to play very much of the new Doom game, but I have played every other Doom. My personal favourite is Doom 3, but that's because I have fond memories of it being my first exposure to Doom after seeing the movie, afterwards I played Doom and Doom 2, and I enjoyed them.

    One of my favorite Doom mods that I saw was a Home Improvement inspired one, where the enemies all had Tim Allen voice packs.

    Joel from Vincesauce played it on a stream one night.

    Start with the freeware version if you don't want to spend any money. Other than that just buy The Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom on Steam for the classic experience. You'll also need a source port. I'd recommend GZDoom or Zandronum.

    I've finally started playing Brutal Doom (v20b with the expansion), and keep running into my biggest problem with classic Doom- how does someone with no sense of direction avoid getting lost constantly? It seriously took me 23 minutes to complete a mission with a 3:30 par time because of walking around lost so often.

    Prodoomer is a personal favorite mine. It's expansive, quirky, and hard as all hell but I loved it so much that I 100%ed it (took me about 50 hours on the hardest difficulty setting without cheats). The WAD is by PsychoSilverTH and as of this year a new version has been released.
