Games you Think are Overrated

It was never my type of game anyway so I was just never interested. Tracer is def. most overrated character from it.

Darksiders plays like bby's first hack n slash, and while I will definitely give credit for it being arguably the first game created by the dev team (and the art being handled by Joe Mad, one of my fav artists), the game itself feels like it's doing too much of different game types and not enough of specific game types that you're expecting to play in a hack n' slash game.

You WANT the combat and the action to be the main selling point. Darksiders doesn't submit to this way of thinking, instead trying to balance combat with exploration and puzzling, and it doesn't excel in any of those categories. You don't get the high octane action and combat of Bayonetta or other similar games, you don't get exploration as deep as something like an Elder Scrolls game and you don't get puzzles like in a LoZ game.

It's just, blah. That's the only way I can describe Darksiders, is that it's a blah game.

 

Agreed, I wanted to like RE2 so badly but the controls ruined it for me. I do love RE4 though.

Oh, also gotta add the obligatory FNAF post here. I do go easier on it since it's made by one person, though.

 

For me it'd be Skyrim. Call me one of those Morrwind reee nerds but compared to almost all the other games in the series, I think Skyrim is lazy and not nearly as in depth as like the first games couple games in the series. While I really like a flexible cast system, Skyrim's is, once again, lazy and not very fun. "Click this stone and get some bonuses for certain things!" At the very least, it can be pretty and can have its moment, but otherwise, it's a boring game.

 

^ yeeeeeeeeahh i loved fallout 3 and nv, but skyrim seemed partially really cool but a huge amount of it was so phoned in.

i never played much of blibbion but what i understand is it has vastly better writing and cool stuff.

just another case where shiny new technology doesn't make up for the lack of a really good dev team.

 

Oblivion definitely was better written but dang that game was ugly for its time. Still a favorite of mine. Morrowind, if you can get past the old graphics, has REALLY awesome story and was really fun and charming. Plus you weren't hand fed everything in it. Its combat really sucked though but I feel everything else made up for it.

 

on the note of more technologically advanced sequel games

okay so banjo kazooie and pogey men were the tits for elementary school kids in the 90s and early 00s. banjo kazooie was a hella good mario 64 knockoff, and pogey men was a hella cool game, made vastly better with all the missingno and zzazz and crazy shit you could do.

and then banjo tooie came out and it had a much better graphics engine and more moves and interconnected worlds and shit and that was rad, and pokemon g2 was similarly awesome with two regions and more pokemon to nab. pokemon g2 was awesome. g3 sucked and i think that was the end of pokemon, it's just been a zombie after that. just my opinion. poffins and beauty contests aren't cool. missingno is cool. exploring new areas is cool. terrifying charizard m's are cool.

and as for banjo tooie, turns out all the good stuff like hailfire peaks and that mayan level and mine level were carried over. the stuff that wasn't ever intended for banjo kazooie was utter crap like the dinosaur level (they made dinosaurs disappointing. how do you do that) and the cloud level.

pokemon g1 and g2 were being developed simultaneously, and the same with banjo, tooie, and donkey kong 64. all the cool stuff in the second games were leftovers from the first games' developments.

Life is Strange.

What a load of hot garbage. It's a David Cage game with (even more) lackluster characters.

 

Final Fantasy VII, it's gotten way too much over-exposure and overhype.

I'm not a fan of the Metroid series. Nothing wrong with their style of gameplay, just not for me.

I do feel for Metroid fans though, as Nintendo has basically abandoned them

I think the games ok, good even
but the community suck so hard, it's impossible to win for tryhards and elitists refusing to work as a team in a team based competitive multiplayer game. And then there's the tumblr and the shipping groups.
At least the dark souls players are good at backing up the "git gud" philosophy, Overwatch's fandom is just a true example of a clusterfuck.

I agree that OoT is nowhere near the best Zelda game, hell I'd rather play Twilight Princess. Majora's Mask is probably my favorite.
Ocarina gets all the praise because it's the first 3D Zelda and one of the few game series that succeeded in the jump from 2D to 3D. It's also the first game for a generation of Zelda players who are younger than the SNES and older than the Game cube, which is all the "90s kids."


I feel like the Uncharted series is generic, and Skyrim was nothing to call my mom about.

 

I find a lot of critically acclaimed indie games in general get over hyped. I think it's because they get a cult following extremely quick and people want to marvel them as modern masterpieces that are better than triple A titles when a lot of them aren't. No saying that all triple A titles are significantly better, but I feel people give unwarranted praise to indie titles.

 

It's because all the stupid hipster kids who buy indie are rebelling against the evils of big corporate money hogs. How dare they release DLC for money, how dare they ask for money for something they work on. Papa Pibot has a saying, "Those who get paid for a product are better than those who don't." It's because those people put their livelihoods on the line, they can't make crap and get away with it because "it's my art." I'm sorry those people like to make money, eat food and live comfortable lives, but Revolution 60 is not, never was, and never will be better than Mass Effect.

 

I think the souls games are overrated. Iz hard git gud, I get it people like difficulty, and not having their hands held. I personally enjoy not accidentally wandering the wrong way and getting slaughtered. I like being told hey this is the point, do this at some point.

 

Fallout 4. No skills, main story sucks, picky as hell settlement building (why can't I put this there, dammit!?!), and lame perks. Also charging $19.99 for even giving you the option to be somewhat evil with Nuka-World.

 

The Zelda franchise as a whole. Only Link to the Past was fun enough for me to play more than a few hours. They aren't bad games at all, but I just can't get into them, maybe they just aren't for me.

I can't get into Don't Starve, even when I play the multiplayer with friends. For a game that requires exploration to ensure your character's survival it sure does like to punish you for exploring too much.

I still hold out hope that they'll eventually go "ok, I think they forgot about Other M" and put out some more games. The Prime Trilogy proved that the series can work well in a 3D setting, so it's not like they have to fight that battle again. They just have to stick to the old "include as little dialogue as possible and let the environment tell the story" formula. That or get the people who wrote Fusion's story back on the payroll.

And again, there was a seven year gap in-between Super Metroid and the first Prime game/Fusion. So shit like this has happened before.
