Games you Think are Overrated

Mario 64 is garbage

 

Age of Empires 2 is overrated.

Walls are too tall and block everything.
Trees are too tall and block everything.
Hills are too weird and screw with your perception, making walling on them impossible.
Villager AI is stupid and gets stuck a lot.
Unit control is stupid and will occasionally run in the opposite direction of where you click.
Melee units are stupid and don't attack in large brawls efficiently.
The only thing preventing monks from unleashing their true potential is the difficulty in controlling them.

The Grand Theft Auto games (boring, shallow, simplistic - basically just a big ADHD collection of simplistic mini-games, pretty much all of which have been done better in other games, whether shooting, driving, etc - pretty much just a simplistic Facebook game like Farmville but with really good graphics).

The Elder Scrolls games (similar to above, boring generic plot and characters, simplistic gameplay and combat, 90% of the in-game content is just recycled, nothing going for it other than the graphics).

Pokemon games (Other than the gimmic about being able to capture and trade Pokemon with toher players, the games are just really simplistic, shallow, and easy RPGs).

Final Fantasy games (In retrospect they're pretty shallow and generic, maybe for the day and age the plot and characters stood out a lot more compared to other games of the time, but in retrospect they've been majorly outdone by other RPGs such as Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc).

Super Smash Brothers games - Pretty shallow and autistic in retrospect compared to fighting games like Street Fighter, and I can't see them appealing to many people other than die-hard autistic Nintendo fans

And the Metal Gear Solid games (I do like the games, and think they have some very good gameplay, but the plot is basically rubbish and borderline incomprehensible, and was just made up as they went along, like TV shows such as Lost).

 

The irony of the Dorian romance is that it was written by a gay man. I get that it's probably a good thing a gay man wrote it and not some fujoshit or w/e, but damn. At least the romance with Steve Cortez in Mass Effect 3, for all of its flaws, was probably the better of the male/male exclusive romances in a BioWare game, IMO.

Side note: I remember people REEEEEing on Tumblr (and one user in particular, whom I'm surprised hasn't earned herself a KF thread yet) about how it was "bisexual erasure" that Dorian wasn't at least bi, despite the fact David Gaider himself is gay and that they wanted to have less "playersexual" romance choices like in DA2 (which is why Blackwall and Cassandra are straight, Sera's a lesbian, and Dorian is gay). The Dragon Age fandom will never be satisfied. Never. Also, I think that was the incident that drove Gaider off of Tumblr, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah, I agree. I only liked it up until Melee. Everything after that just feels weak. Even then, Melee is hella overrated. Like, seriously, do we need two Smash Bros games on the EVO main stage when there's other, more deserving fighting games out there that could've been in either one's place?

 

I agree that Smash isn't anywhere near as deep as other fighting games, but I don't think it was ever designed to be played competitively. It's closer to a party game you play with some friends that can be as chill or intense as you want it to be.

I mean, it was good, but after Awakening it just felt like it was riding its coat tails rather then becoming its own game. Also I didn't want to pay triple for the full game.

You know it's bad when you call the sequel to your favourite game of all time overrated.

 

Well Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite 2D Super Mario Bros. platform game and I think it's overrated too.

 

Witcher 3 is okay but it's no giant leap for gamingkind

 

I thought it was universally regarded as a solid "disappointing meh"

 

Call of Duty. I don't fucking get it. Maybe it's the non-changing gameplay. Maybe it's the awful fanbase. I mean, the games are decent, but I've seen how much money they go for when they first come out (including the DLC) and I just don't think it's a game spending that much money on.

 

Same can be said with a lot of modern day First-Person Shooters.

But for me, I think the most overrated game is Five Nights at Freddy's. It's an overrated indie game that does little to nothing different each game.
