Games you Think are Overrated

I actually like Undertale, but it's incredibly overrated. It's a cute little indie game that does a few clever things with its genre, but it's overhyped by its fanbase and isn't nearly clever as it thinks.

Shadow of the Colossus is a good game, but I feel like a lot of the wonder of the game flew by me because of the hype. Controls are kinda wonky, too.

 

Dark Souls

 

Agreed. Dark Souls are games for faggots who never picked up Ghost N Goblins.

 

How did Undertale get so big anyway?

 

I think a big part was the guy that did the music for it also did music for Homestuck or something? I don't remember but something Homestuck

And what's the deal with Hoodie Skeleton?

 

He has a big twist ending and there's also some super convoluted theory where some people think he might be Ness from mother or something. Also skeleton puns I guess.

 

It's probably because it was touted as a spiritual sequel to the Mother series and allowed you as the fan to somewhat dictate the fuck was going in it during the fundraising. Also because it was a game where you can be an anime, ie "Stahp fighting guys".

Another low hanger for me that I'd agree is overrated is that series where the scary pop-up men go "boo" and shove you into a suit. If only because most any fuck has done it and I've seen whole channels decide to try to cash in on this game children play super hard.

 

Does it having certain SJW undertones and the main character being so sexually ambiguous have anything to do with it, or that's just something the fans themselves have tried to push in?

 

I think more fans have tried to push, though Toby Fox did say he left the character genderless more so so you could choose what it is for yourself.

 

Paladins is better.

These games I find to be highly overrated. Some of these games such as Kingdom Hearts aren't bad exactly, but aren't as great as people make them out to be.

I've seen it listed three four times already but I'll say it anyway:

UNDERTALE

It's a cute game, but it's really overrated considering how simplified everything is (music, graphics, story, etc). Not to mention the option to make friends with your enemies and the androgynous protagonist appeals to SJWs like nobody's business.

 

FNAF and Undertale have already been mentioned apparently. Not surprising since I felt the same way about them.
To add something new, this is going to be VERY controversial, but IDGAF.
Mario is very overrated honestly, both the franchise and the character. Sure he and his games left a huge mark on the industry, but his character lacks development and his games, while fun, are all predictable in the end. I feel that more unique and daring franchises, especially F-Zero for instance are left out because Mario games are considered the safer option.

 

My favourite game is Silent Hill 2. And I think Silent Hill 2 is overrated as all fuck.
Yes the story is neat and it creates a great atmosphere, but people are so quick to overlook the snail like pace, clunky controls, janky combat system and the fact you can ignore almost all outdoors combat by running down the street swinging a stick like a madman. That and Maria. Stop justifying Maria, she's a giant escort mission whose only purpose is to get killed at the worst times which causes a game over then go ahead and die later on several times which are apparently fine.

 

As far as overrated games go for me, I would want to list Fallout 3. While I enjoyed the game, looking back at it, it really could of been better. I don't mean in the department of fixing bugs that Bethesda overlooked but rather, the story itself could of been better than just ending with you either poisoning the great water hole or purifying it so people can have clean water. Getting good karma is too easy when considering you have a robot that makes free purified water you could give to beggars, and with how you had DLC that changed the ending, one could of felt Bethesda could also of written a better ending. Could be me bitching about the game but I felt that it's not as great as many say it is.
