Okay, Cyan, I made a thread

What are your unpopular opinions about books?

You all know about mine with Discworld, I just don't find it humorous at all, but I am pretty sure it is just because of how I was sold the book by people that set me up for disappointment so I don't have a problem with anyone who likes it and I might have liked it better if people didn't hype up my expectations of this book series being super funny.

Also, I think Are you There God It's me Margaret isn't a really good book for preteen girls, it makes periods out to be some really super special thing, but in reality when you actually get them, well, they feel like shit and you wish you never asked for them. It just feels really unrealistic and I get it, when I was a preteen, I always looked forward to growing up, but now that I am an adult on the other side, it really sucks.

I tried to read a book on creativity once called The War of Art
IDK what it was in the introduction, but he said something like if everyone could unlock their creativity, then mental illness would disappear
    I stopped reading right there

I hate the book Let Me Hear your Voice, it is the most ableist book I have ever read as the author basically said that autism is a fate worse than death and I kept getting the impression that if her daughter didn't start talking and get "cured" (which is debatable) she wouldn't value her as much. I was forced to read it in college and the book just made me really angry, especially as an autistic person who struggled with suicidal ideation in the past.

This book was published back in the 90s so things were definitely quite different back then.

I don't know if any of my book opinions are really that unpopular.

Twilight is bad but had the potential to be good.
Dresden Files is good but Jim Butcher needs to have a long hard look at how he writes about women.
Brandon Sanderson is probably the JRR Tolkien of our time.
Discworld had a lot of heart and so many tattoo-worthy quotes.

I guess my biggest one is that Harry Potter is incredibly overrated.

I'm of the opinion Harry Potter took hold more due to the fact that the state of mid grade books at the time was kind of abysmal and the fact it was decent in a sea of mediocrity is what helped it take hold. Not to mention in the 90s people just went harder for their fandoms.

One of my unpopular opinions it seems is that I think Eragon is pretty good in spite of the accusations of it being too derivative. I kind of want to check out the authors newer work, see if he has grown.

I had a few kids in my class back in 5th grade that really loved Eragon. At the time he kids liked the book which it was for kids first and foremost.
