Original characters vs cringe

Didn't Penders really screw up American Sonic comics?

Like to the point where the staff decided to "retcon" out what Penders put in?

 

I wouldn't be surprised if they did and kicked him out to make sure they could retcon whatever he made in peace without him trying to throw a fit in person. That's my guess since I never read any of the comics.

 

They did. But then Archie Comics lost the Sonic license, and a new comic series was created by IDW and spearheaded by Ian Flynn (Penders's replacement at Archie and actually pretty cool guy, as far as I know).
Also something I'd like to point out is that unlike Penders, Flynn is an actual fan of the games, and was even hired by Sega to write the story for Sonic Frontiers, an official game in the series. Penders, meanwhile, has most likely been blacklisted by every major comic publisher thanks to his lolsuits, and if he ever somehow makes his OC donut steel enchilada fanfic comic, it's practically guaranteed to be on the same level of quality as Empress Theresa.

Pink Donkey Kong Jr. was the greatest OC ever created, and is totally not the end result of Super Mario Wiki editors thinking they should have an entire article on an unnamed pallette swap created for the multiplayer mode of a crappy math game.
