This movie is great... the only good thing my douchebag older brother ever did was loan me his VHS copy of this cinematic masterpiece.

Neil Young is one of the greatest musicians of all time. From his solo work, to Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and Crazy Horse, Neil Young has influenced countless musicians. Kurt Cobain quoted his song lyrics in his suicide note etc etc etc.

What few know is that Neil also dabbled in the film industry, with his best known work being Greendale, which was mediocre, but isn't worthy of a thread.

Human Highway, on the other hand, is amazing. It stars David Lynch stalwarts like Dean Stockwell, Russ Tamblyn, and Dennis Hopper as well as the band Devo, who were a few years away from achieving mainstream success with "Whip It". The plot of the movie makes little fucking sense at all, but takes place at a roadside diner/gas station/garage near a nuclear power plant. Stockwell plays some douchebag who owns the business, Hopper steals the show as "crackers the cook", Devo (and specifically Mark Mothersbaugh's character Boogie Boy) play individuals who work at a nuclear power plant. There's some other weird shit going on there that I can't remember because it's been ten years since I saw the whole movie, but here are some scenes that I could find on youtube:

    Trailer:

This is from a dream sequence one Neil Young's character, a goofy mechanic, has where he hits his head and had a dream where he's.... Neil Young the rock musician? I believe copious amounts of cocaine were involved in this scene:

Here's a musical act by Devo, which is actually a cover of a Kingston Trio cover of a Woody Guthrie song:

The ending of hte movie, which I am unable to find, is the entire cast singing "worried man" as nuclear war begins and they ascend a stairway to heaven. It's amazing.

It was originally released in 1982 then on VHS in 1995 to very negative reviews. A "Director's Cut" started making its way onto the festival circuit in 2014 but I can't find a digital copy of the entire movie.
