Hellblazer said that the focus of this forum was on "so bad it's good" media and this movie is probably one of my favorites in that regard. If you ever have bad-movie nights with your buddies this one is a pretty fun watch. I find something new wrong with it every time I see it.

Also the company that produced it went bankrupt back in the early 90's and hasn't been sending out any takedown notices. It's been up on youtube for a few years now. You probably know them as the company that made He-Man, and some of the characters in this are just recolors of He-Man characters.

Technically they didn't, what really happened was a French cosmetics firm got the dumb idea they could buy an animation studio, close it down, then use the library to sell off to TV channels worldwide. The studio closed in '88 after the buyout. Prior to that, Filmation made another feature film, "Pinocchio & The Emperor of The Night", another so-bad-it's-good classic, and one a certain guy I know online can't shut up about.

I've heard of but never seen Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night. I'll have to give that one a watch sometime. I doubt said emperor can hold a candle to Lord Maliss though, lmao.

He's voiced by James Earl Jones, is that enough?

BTW, the original title of the film was going to be called "Snow White in The Land of Doom". Apparently this commercial from 1990 (three years before it finally came out) touted giving kids a free toy at a theater on opening weekend. Not sure if it ever happened.

I wouldn't know. The only merchandise I've ever seen from this movie were the dolls advertised at the end of the movie and the video game. If there were toys given out in the theaters, they haven't shown up on ebay.

    Here's a review from Musical Hell -

Admittedly, while I haven't sat down with the whole movie, it doesn't look so bad it's good. Just kind of mediocre, bordering on just bad. It definitely feels like something that ought to have gone straight to video. It's definitely a waste of the wonderful voice talent - Carol Channing, Ed Asner, Malcolm McDowell, the late great Zsa Zsa Gabor, Dom DeLuise, Tracey Ullman - and the songs, at least to me, are just earsplitting (who thought it was a good idea to let Lou Grant rap? I can't unhear that.)

Oh boy I remember this movie from my childhood. I'll be honest though and say that I found it much more entertaining than Disney's Snow White.

I'm sure different strokes for different folks in this case.

Reminded they also had Ed Asner on the Pinocchio film too, where he voiced a raccoon (their replacement for the fox from the original story).

I remember Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night. I saw it once as a kid, it scared me like crazy and I loved it.

I think that's a matter of personal preference. My friends and I love watching this film because of how bad it is, and I think it counts as "so bad it's good" if it manages to entertain you in spite of or even because of the flaws.

It depends on what you're in the mood for. Disney's Snow White is a masterpiece from it's era, and if animation is your schtik, you're going to enjoy it a lot more than some cash-grab from the early 90's. If you just want to laugh at something bad, then Filmation's movie is the way to go.
