Armchair psychology: Barb

Now that we have all this info on Barb now, why don't we take a look at some things from Barb's past? For instance, what kind of person do you think Barb was in high school? A slut? A nerd? A try-hard? Whatever she was, how did she get laid more times than I have?

 

That's perhaps the scariest thought I've heard in relation to chris.

 

We barely know anything about Barb now, let alone when she was younger, I don't really see the point in fantasising about young Barb, it would just end up being on par with fan fiction.

I wonder if one of the reasons that Chris has been so social, making new friends and going out, is because of how much Barb has smothered him and tried to hoard him.

 

So chris might be trying to break the gravitational pull of the hoard before he becomes buried in it. (or accidentaly burned alive.)

 

I think you might be right be right about Barb being THE bad influence on Chris and the main reason he is who he is. While Bob may not have been a pleasant person, he at least seemed like a relitively normal man, and certainly the one to be more interested in Chris' well-being

 

Barb doesn't actually have all that much willpower. Chris is just a pussy and Barb knows how to push his buttons (and unlike trolls, she won't hesitate to hold Chris down and splash his eyes with vinegar to get what she wants, kinda like an elderly female Bluespike).

Way back during Ivy, it came to light that Chris was leaving his freshly soiled briefs in the clothes hamper and Barb got fed up with having to make sure he wasn't leaving behind presents. Barb put her foot down and told Chris that he'd either learn to do his own laundry or learn to at least clean out his DIRTY, CRAPPED BRIEFS before putting them in with the rest of the laundry. Less than a week later, Chris got a death threat from a ween and was so shaken up he shat his bed. Barb gave up and started doing his laundry again. The same thing happened with Tomgirl--Chris just kept on being Chris long enough for Barb to give up.

Of course, these are the only two times Chris has ever resisted Barb.

Barb's dad (think Chris but better groomed) died in a wagon accident when Barb was 15. She might have had issues beforehand but this was probably where she lost her marbles. She was almost certainly a skank.

Bob and Barb's black sheep status with their respective families is entirely due to Barb's promiscuity--Bob cheated on his then-wife Patricia with Barb , and Barb tried to sleep with one of her brother-in-laws on his wedding night.

Barb took up hoarding because age got in the way of her primary coping mechanism. Her enslavement of Chris is a defensive reaction since she's never been able to handle loss well.

 

I forgot about that. An untimely loss is a common trait amongst hoarders.

I say that, we all know she was either horrified (like a normal person) or shat herself and did nothing (like a chandler).

 

So when you grow up in a shitty household (abusive, toxic, whatever) you see it as normal. It's when you're older and you start going to other kids' houses or living on your own do you realize just how different other things are. Since Chris has never done those last two things, he's just thought his situation was normal.

Only recently, I feel, Chris has realized that he doesn't have to be who his parents want him to be. I wouldn't be surprised if the transgirl stuff is him trying to find a way to present himself more comfortably than what Barb and Bob have tried to mold him into. Emotions have been a big thing for him, with whatever special ed teachers or therapists put him through to learn how to interact with others while autistic. He probably sees himself as being more "emotional" than regular men and I wouldn't be surprised if Bob tried to keep him from showing emotions? So he wants to show emotions (like anyone would want to) and sees that as wanting to be a woman, since women can have emotions and it's okay.

Chris doesn't have healthy coping skills so he buys stuff to feel better. At least by going to local queer events he has SOME semblance of social interactions, plus he has his ass-patters on Facebook.

Barb has him so whipped that, ultimately, I don't think she has the energy to micro-manage him anymore. He still feeds her and gets her med and probably gets the bugs off her ass or whatever and she's fine with that. As long as she can watch her shitty tv shows and rot on the couch she ultimately doesn't care.

 

I was under the impression that she actually wanted Chris to sleep with her and love her, I could be wrong but from what I read on the cwcki, it seems like chris got his mannerisms regarding other women from his interactions with barb

 

I don't think Barb really cares about anything anymore.
