I'm sure you've seen these around before.

These are those little Evangelical comics that were mass produced and handed out everywhere. They always had some message along the lines of "everything you enjoy is sinful but Jesus is here to make it all go away and to take you to heaven."

The most notorious one being Lisa, where the main character was a child-rapist who ended up converting after his doctor confronted him about giving his own kid herpes. This one was so poorly received that Jack Chick actually pulled it from circulation and had it removed from his site.

You ever received one of these things?

Someone actually gave my mom one of these. I can't remember which one but I have it in a drawer somewhere. Pretty ballsy since allegedly they are illegal to hand out in Canada. My favourite will always be the one where the 4 year old is raped by her dad and gets herpes, but it's okay because he finds big J in the end and the family lives happily ever after.

There was a kiosk selling them at a small press expo I went to. Really wish I'd bought one, but I didn't know what they were at the time.

If it makes you feel better, you can easily read them for free on the internet if you look hard enough.

bungholio Deader than the parents on "Party Of Five".

I actually found one irl once. It was last year at a Dunkin' Donuts right across from the Catholic school I went to as a kid....which is funny because it was the "Are Catholics Christians?" tract. :story:

Oh, I've read a bunch since then, but just think it'd be cool to have a paper one.

All of them but Lisa (the child rape one) are available in their entirety on their website. That's how I've gotten my fix of John 3:16 spamming thus far.

Cornholio I need TP for my bunghole!

I have this one. I wish I asked the woman who gave me it for more of them. Coincidentally, the day she gave me it was also the day Chick died.

I found one at the gym once, but it threw it out after a while. I can always get my fix of Chick Tracts online.

I got one in my treat-or-treat basket when I was seven (specifically this one: https://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0011/0011_01.asp). My mom saw it and after looking it over she tore it in half and then tore into the neighbor who handed it to me. I never went trick-or-treating at their house again.

The more of these I see the more I think these are where my own mother got her worldview. Also the religion that the druids practiced was pretty much eradicated about a millennium ago, so we have no way of knowing what their practices were. Pretty sure they didn't invent Halloween.

How nutso do you have to be to give this kind of thing to a kid?

Very much so. I live in the Bible Belt after all.

I forgot to mention this part, but years later when my grandmother was teaching the seniors in Sunday school she gave us each a Chick Tract and wanted us to do a book report on the Tract we were given. Shit didn't get done though, because one guy in our class named JD decided to read his aloud. Even my grandmother was laughing.

    He got this Tract: https://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0025/0025_01.asp
