Being an artist is about doing random shit and then bullshitting some ridiculous deep meaning behind it all.

You could either do a lot of practicing or you could do a lot of drugs, though I prefer the practice route becasue I enjoy my remaining brain cells. (I oil paint so I'm inhaling and handling chemicals the whole time. Woo!) If you're just starting out with drawing, then doing observation and still life drawings is a good way to get the basics down and get comfortable with drawing. I like to do sketches from Renaissance paintings and sculptures to practice anatomy, I just find a pose that interests me and sketch it out.
Another cool thing to do is if you have access to bones and skulls they make really great practice subjects.
It's also good to look up artists whose work you really enjoy and keep a collection of images to inspire you. You'll be able to figure out exactlly what it is you like about their work and how to incorporate it into your style. Never be afraid to experiment, you learn a lot just by trying new things.
