IMO you could say that about pretty much every MMORPG with a huge emphasis on "leveling up" through grinding, since you spend more time just doing boring repetitive tasks than actually "playing", which probably explains why there's such as high autism ratio in the MMORPG communities.

Probably Sonic Heroes for me. The controls are slippery and you have to play the same levels four times over. Nowadays, that would really grind. The Chaotix levels wherein you missed something and had to go back through the whole stage were horrible too. The plot also seemed kind of weak, but I can't really remember it. The Chaos Emerald stages were abysmal but I liked the music and that glossed over everything else as a kid.

Sonic Adventure 2 was enjoyable for the most part. Spent 30 minutes in Mad Space though and I hate Crazy Gadget with a passion. Never got through Cannon's Core either. There are probably more things that I don't like but I can't name any more off the top of my head.

Sort of. The bulk of the stages were 2D but there were 3D segments in some of the levels. I didn't think X8 was too bad of a game (especially compared to X7 or X6), but it was packed full of artificial difficulty and that made it frustrating to play at parts.

X7 was a mostly 3D game with some (poor) 2D segments. X8 so far as I remember didn't really have more 3D elements to its various segments than any other sidescroller I can think of to use 3D models for its graphics, and about as much as a bunch of PS1 and SNES platformers did. Things like a huge enemy in the background who only sometimes puts his parts into the same plane as the player characters so they can be attacked.

Also Axl's personality improved going from the first of these to the other. He went from being an obnoxious incessant whiner to mostly being quiet.

For me it's one of those "didn't care for it at first but later warmed up to it" games, in that it was much more fun in hindsight than Shadow the Hedgehog (same slippery controls, same backtracking problems as the Chaotix levels, and tacked-on gunplay) and Secret Rings. Glad we were a Nintendo household instead of PlayStation or X-box, otherwise we might have played Sonic '06!

Heroes is one I'd still go back to and play again at least, just not as much as the main Genesis platformers or the Sonic Adventure games.

X7 and X8 were objectively terrible. The series peaked at X3.

Personally pretty much every NES game is not as fun as remembered. There are obvious exceptions, like Ducktales 1+2, but for the most part NES games just aren't fun. I loved Rygar as a kid, for example, but as an adult I realize now I never really even made it to the second boss. Wandering aimlessly when you're old enough to appreciate games is decidedly not fun at all.

Over the shoulder driving segments are about as 3D as it gets, then. I still stand by my statements.

The best one in the series was X1, the fact that X2 through X4 aren't demonstrably a lot worse is actually pretty good longevity for a series that started on such a high note.

This one's a bit iffy but there's a roguelike called Elona. I put it as "not as fun" simply because its online component is dead. When the dev kept the servers up, I could vote on players with names like Ray of Gay Jay and The Hero Link, see players death messages in their location of death and where they died, and go through portals that led to player made rooms that were in Japanese (JP made game on a JP programming language that I hear is a bitch for non-JP programmers to code). Most of the game is still playable but that lack of online semi-connectivity changes the experience for me, that and not being able to vote for player aliases means no tax breaks in-game which sucks.

Most JRPGs feel broken and grind-heavy nowadays, mostly Pokémon titles.

The newest pockymon games have this "smartphone-y" look to them.

(I like Gen 6 best even though I started playing back when Gen 1 was new.)

I've enjoyed Sword and Shield and I believe I would still like the classics if they had a built-in speed-up feature to make the whole grinding process more feasible.

Unpopular opinion: I liked Exp Share in the newer games being on because I always hate right before the elite four being underleveled and having to grind

There is a speed-up feature in the GB Tower in the Pokemon Stadium games.

I guess the next best thing is turning "battle animations" off.

I think people would be fine with EXP Share if it does not involve the following problems:
    1. Overlevelling that it makes fighting any trainers to be laughable;
    2. Unintentional EV point gaining for the shared Pokemon, it does help if you want to EV gain for multiple Pokemon at once, but if you are not careful it would give you a disadvantage
Other than that, the idea of grinding for shared Pokemon which can help your new Pokemon in late game is actually fine, just that it's done a bit too easy but rather a double-edged sword, you really don't want to go back to the old days where you need to grind one at a time (I recall trying to get the maximum amount of Pokemon possible in Pokedex without trading in my Pokemon Red and Gold saves and it was painful trying to grind E4 over and over).

This Rugrats Time Traveling game I had for my Gameboy, I don't know why I thought it was so fun as a kid, same with my Barbie Genie game I had for the Gameboy too.

    I probably just grew up...

Yeah, a lot of people are like "The first few generations of Pokemon were sooooooo hard, the newer ones are so easy" but really? They are actually really easy, it is just as a kid, you didn't know much about the Pokemon statistics and stuff so it seemed harder than it was, especially since nowadays, all of that statistical stuff with Pokemon and moves and whatnot is available more easily.

Back in Gen 1 & 2, 'mons had less moves, and the gym leaders and elite 4 had 'mons with crappier movesets.

By Gen 6, the movesets were smarter and from more varied moves. Like Gyarados learning Ice Fang.

yeah, there is also the fact that a lot of the adult fanbase doesn't understand that to Gamefreak, the children who play it come first. Also, Gamefreak does listen to feedback if people are being reasonable, but with most of these manchildren who are all salty about new stuff, they are completely unreasonable. That's what I like about Gamefreak is that they are able to drown out the screeching from the manchildren while still listening to the people who are being constructive.

I know there is some salt about how the evil teams are so lame now, but honestly? From Generations 4-6 people have been kind of spoiled with villains with lofty goals or in Ghetsis's case a downright despicable child abuser with no redeeming qualities. Gamefreak is still capable of making good villains like Volo in Legends Arceus, who is also argued to be one of the hardest fights in the franchise it is just that again, people were kind of spoiled.
