'Dykes, dykes, Japan' doesn't have the same ring to it.

Or anyone who went through the education system in the Deep South.

Also the traditional building styles, a number of the foods, Tanabata...

That could explain how (someone with the mind of) a little kid could get on the honor roll in high school.

    nah

Like I said, confused, not mad.

Although that can speak about how crappy education in American public schools can be, at least in Virginia.

Heard about Chris through osmosis on Encyclopedia Dramatica. References to him were peppered into articles on other people and topics and eventually I had to find out who the hell "Chris-chan" was. This was around mid to late 2008. I can't remember the exact first Chris video I saw since at the time none of this was worth committing to memory, but I certainly remember when the infamous JULAY video was a thing. I was attending college at the time and I'd occasionally spend my lunch breaks in the university cafeteria reading the CWCkipedia and orbiting websites.

I had an account on the ED forums, though I stopped using it just before I graduated. I later came around and registered on the original iteration of the CWCki Forums, which later became Kiwi Farms. I stuck around on the Farms for a little while but that place turned straight up evil so I left. I also had an account on this board years ago but I decided to just register a new one when I came back.

As I mentioned elsewhere, the concept of "Chris Chan" became a mind worm.

So I find myself thinking it would've been better had I not heard of CWC.

I don't know, it is what it is. I like the people I met as a result of it.

It all would of played differently, especially with the incest coming to light and one going "wow this person has their own wiki? That's something."

Same. Farms itself gone to shit but I don't regret some of the people I met on that site, especially with keeping some contact with others.

Despite my young age, I actually discovered Chris in late 2007, before the Enyclopedia Dramatica page in fall. My older brother who was 15 at the time frequently lurked the SomethingAwful forums, and saw the thread about Chris and Sonichu. By proxy I caught wind of Chris through this, and started looking into this strange character. My brother actually thought that Chris was an elaborate troll at first like Chad Warden, until it went on for ages and he still kept hearing about the guy, including his many arrests and people who had met him in real life.

I was 8, about to turn 9 when I first learned about CWC in October 2007. I started reading Sonichu because of SomethingAwful, and thought it was really weird and unintentionally funny, even if I didn't understand the Love Quest shit beyond "Hahaha this guy can't get a girlfriend because he's a loser lol".

A bunch of people posting there back then kept saying that the guy who created these bizarre comics was even crazier than the comics themselves, and a SomethingAwful user posted a link to his old YouTube channel of that time. I clicked it, and saw some of his early videos from 2007. Even at that age, I could tell they weren't exaggerating. The first saga I saw unfold in real time was the Adam Stackhouse saga, when Chris lost his shit over cheating in that Parappa the Rapper contest and still losing.

It blew my mind as a kid that a dude like this existed, who by then was old enough to be my uncle. Not long after, I heard that people were posting about this guy and Sonichu on 4chan, and I kept checking on his YouTube page for strange new videos, and looking at Sonichu comics on his "Pokesites" out of morbid curiosity.

By late 2007 and especially by 2008, "Chris Chan rant" and "Sonichu rant" videos became extremely common to see in the related videos section of anything you were watching, and kept my interest in this odd discovery alive. It's hard to overstate just how huge and influential the YouTube rant community was on the internet in the late 2000s, I know it definitely got a lot more eyes on Chris on YouTube in the classic era.

In addition, it was far from uncommon between 2008-2010 especially to see new Chris videos in the video roll on the front page of YouTube, back when they still had that. I would always recognize him in the thumbnails and click when I saw that, knowing I was in for a show.

Commentary community back then with all its rants was indeed a sort of influence even if they don't pull up the same amount of views as today. A number of them talking about Chris would no doubt push Chris further than for any that never went to 4Chan or Something Awful or Encyclopedia Dramatica. And as I mentioned previously a couple years back, it was from one member of that community I did hear about Chris without even looking further.

I was there at the beginning, I personally knew Evan. We frequented some of the same forums at the time when out of the blue he told me about Chris-Chan and showed me Chris' first Sonichu site.

Evan and I never really got along, so I was surprised he said anything to me. He told me he was leaving to get involved in this as his new "mark"

I clicked around the site and didn't see anything special. Just someone overprotective of his Sonic recolor who made some lackluster comics, I had seen the same thing on Deviantart a dozen times. Though the extent to which this Chris Chan did so was comical.

Keep in mind, this was VERY early on, Encyclopedia Dramatics hadn't even heard of this guy.

I actually thought about posting on Youtube (which was only recently invented at the time), and claiming that I created Sonichu, but I didn't think it'd be that funny as I was sure no one knew who this Chris was and that Sonichu be forgotten in a month. (Oh, past Ore, you could have been Liquid Chris)

I tried to read some of the comics posted. However after clicking around and getting none of them to open, I just assumed he posted some mock-up covers and didn't actually write or post any Sonichu comics. I remember my favorite of these abominations was the one where Sonic mistakenly believes Blake was suspended in Chemical X instead of Cherry Cola, which... isn't even what happens in the comic as Cherry Cola is poured on the DNA sample, not used for the liquid in his pod.

Obviously the comics were very real, Chris was just shit at making a website that actually worked.

Anyway, I wished Evan well and forgot about the whole thing... a few months later, a friend of mine (not Evan, someone else entirely who wasn't even in the same friend circle I knew Evan from) brings up Sonichu and I'm like "How do you know about that loser?"

He then points me to Encyclopedia Dramatica where I find there's been a few developments in the story, ShecameforCWC, "iPods Down & Listen Up", and the proof that it's not an act; The Tale of the Crazy Pacer....

And well, I've been on and off every since... There were a few times when I had the chance to get involved with Christory, but something came up, the timing was poor, or Chris himself wildly misinterpreted something I said and saw through my cover. Usually not because I was too obvious or came onto strong, he just mistook something I said for a euphemism and backed off.

That's one of the tricky things about Chris-Chan, he's so stuck in his own world that you don't know how he'll react to anything. This is someone who heard "Fucking your own mother is frowned upon by pretty much everyone" as "You are literally the reincarnation of Jesus Christ" after all, or for a classic example "A robot bear misheard my name, clearly this is a sign from God."

Looking back on it, I'm glad I never wound up in the Book of Chris-Chan. You don't want to be apart of Christory, you may think you do, but you don't. Is fame really worth being part of the set-up to the world's longest punchline? I now realize that the times I almost became part of the story, only to fail, was not bad luck on my part, but a guardian angel making sure I didn't do something I'd regret forever.

I think one of the truest things the CWCki has ever said is as follows.

"You do NOT want to be a part of Christory."

Or at least not a major part of it. I am but I declined when cwcki editors asked if I wanted an entire page dedicated to me so I got to slide pretty far under the radar.

Looks like a lot of other circa 2008-2010 folks.

I got wind of Chris first through the 4chan /i/ community meant for invasions, raids, and hacking bs. Which would have been early 2009 I think? Distinctly remember Surfshack Tito being the first arc I watched unfold and seeing other people try to plot how to insert themselves into the next video. Odd intro seeing that side of stuff first. Didn’t read classic Christory until later.

Honestly he actually sounds even more like a cartoon this way. Mostly because that southern twang... if I didn't know better I'd say it was too tryhard and forced to be someone's real accent.. and I say that as someone who lives in a Southern State even further down than VA

At least with Chris' later voice it sounds like someone legitimately suffering from a mental disorder
