I can imagine someone paying $150 for it.

  2. $250 is the limit before I start laughing at the person who buys it. I swear, if someone had just showed up at their front door, was polite, and said, "I'm not here to cause trouble. Here's a couple hundred bucks, I just want the Sanic totem and then I'll leave," that would have been the end of it.

This will only be made worse if/when chris does not fuck everything up by either not sending the product at all, (mailing stuff is stressful) or doing a piss poor packaging job that leaves the merchandise in such bad shape that the buyer claims a refund.

You know, for some reason this reminds me of a story my dad told me about a renter he dealt with during a period of his life (early thirties) when he was financially secure enough to buy a couple of houses and rent them to college students in the area (or whoever would rent) to make a little extra cash. He said "Don't do it, don't become a landlord, It's a renters world and the law exists to help renters and screw landlords."

So, there was one woman who asked to take a look at the house. Dad was busy, so he gave her a copy of the key and told her to lock up when she was done and that he would check and make sure she locked up later that night when he was finished work. She ended up moving all of her things into the house and replacing the lock on the door by the time dad got there. He tried to get her out before eventually calling the police. The problem was that the police couldn't force her to leave the house, they'd ask her to leave but she'd stay in the house. So, there was a cycle of the police showing up every two weeks or so to ask her to leave, she'd say she'd be out later that day when they left, and she'd still be in the house the next day.

It took about 6 months before the police finally forced her to get out of the house. After dealing with this woman my dad was so mad that he sold the house, as well as the other 2 houses that he was renting out, and decided to get out of the business of being a landlord.

On a side note, I knew another (more successful) landlord who had a similar situation with a family of three. They tried to pull the same shit, so my friend waited until they left the house (or until they slept, I forget which), then he brought his tools to the house and stole the doors. The family called the cops, they showed up at his house and searched his garage and house for the doors, but they couldn't prove that he had taken the doors because he hid them in a friend's garage. The family had the choice of buying and installing new doors, continuing to squat in the house with no doors, or leaving the house.

Once they left the house, the landlord re-installed the doors.

Just came back to this thread after letting everything settle. I've been lurking and reading, Is it at all clear who bought the totem and what their plans are? I don't think anyone would seriously drop that much money just to pull another "medallion stunt". At this point in time are we aware if the totem is even in the mail?

Yeah, that was a stupid move admittedly, but he hadn't had any problems doing that with any other tenant, and he had been renting out houses for at least 2 years at this point. Besides, it shouldn't have taken 6 months for the police to actually do anything about her.

It was supposed to be a dig at GamerGate asking for basic integrity in games journalism. Like many people on the SJW side of the GamerGate thing, DStecks doesn't believe in journalistic integrity and was making a joke to mock people who want even something like letting people know your review was sponsored financially by the company that made the game or the "indie" game you're spotlighting was made by someone you're having sex with.

People can rage at this, and I know I'm aiding in the derailing of a thread, but isn't referring to what they do as "gaming journalism" a bit much? I mean, it's not like these people are reporting about events that are affecting the world or uncovering truths about our society that we didn't know. I mean, why were a bunch of aspies talking giving their opinions on games being held to the sames standards as Nelly Bly or Walter Kronkite in the first place?

Journalism about events going on in the games industry is still a report on current affairs, it's just about something unimportant. Ever heard of a slow news day? Regular newsies report about things of equal or lesser importance all the time, just with a wider array of topics.

And reviews are meant to share the opinions of those that write them, but also to share information about the game as a whole to help potential buyers make informed decisions. They're not asking them to be held to the same standards as people reporting on foreign wars or domestic politics (LOL), they're just asking them to be forthright about influences that could color their perspective in ways that mislead people about the games' qualities. Things like your Assassin's Creed review being literally paid for by the game publisher, you having been handed a review copy of the game for free to increase the game's exposure instead of buying the game on your own dime, or the game's developer giving you sexual favors in exchange for exposure.

Well, at 7 pages, I think whatever needed to be said about the totem has already been said. There's only so much you can say about an autistic selling a cursed toilet paper roll to another autistic guy for $1500, then spending a third of that cash on a necklace, then making a video begging for more money which features the necklace.

So apparently now he never shipped it and is in the red because of a charge back. He probably was either too lazy to mail it or couldn't bear to part with something he made in middle school that he could have made an insane amount of money on.
