I really like Hoarders and I actually went out of my way to record My Strange Addiction. Although to be honest some of the Addiction people just bothered me, like the transgender adult baby and Davecat. Something about their mannerisms was like nails down a chalkboard.

I used to watch Toddlers and Tiaras if it was on, but I would just end up gritting my teeth watching those bratty little kids and their delusional, sick parents. And whenever the kid wasn't a brat and openly hated doing the pageants, I felt like I was watching a form of child abuse for entertainment, which made me feel worse.

I remember one episode of Toddlers and Tiaras where a little girl had a pageant coach who ended up actually entering the same pageant as the little girl, in the tweens and up category, and naturally ended up winning that category because she had been doing pageant crap for twice as long as the other girls had been alive. How pathetic are you that you enter a beauty pageant against 14 year old girls and take pride in winning that?

EDIT: I just had to go back and find that coach. Her name is Brandi Tutor-Brown. She had won "Miss Grand Supreme" against some ten-year-olds, asserted that she works just as hard as the ten-year-olds so she deserves the title just as much, and also encouraged her student to be a trophy wife and marry a "nerd"

@Polexia Aphrodisia, same. I watch Toddlers & Tiaras for the sole reason of getting pissed off. I get so irritated at how vapid and materialistic the mothers are.
TLC had My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding on right? I liked that show for the pretty dresses. But again, I always ended up pissed at the vapidity of the women on that show.

 

The dresses looked really pretty, and I usually like wedding shows like "Say Yes to the Dress" (isn't that on TLC too?), but just from the previews I could tell that their accents were going to drive me up the wall.

 

I could never watch Toddlers and Tiaras for too long. The parents just piss me off so much and I find myself wishing someone would just step in and take the kids away. The worst mother I ever saw on that show was Lori, the mother of Alaska and Braxton. She blatantly shows favoritism to whichever kid is winning the most pageants at the time to the point that she pretty much bullies the losing one, pretty much destroying their self esteem. And, oh yeah, she brushes her kids' teeth with Bleach.

And that's not even getting into the sorts of outfits some of the parents like to stick their kids in, the sorts of things that I would hope my daughter would have too much self respect to wear when she's an adult, being put on kids way too young to know what's going on.

Whenever parents and "feminists" start to bitch and moan about "sexy Halloween costumes for kids", I always think "Get rid of the blatant child exploitation pageants first. Then worry about Party City costumes. You're spearing the minnows around the boat and ignoring the sharks."

 

I can't remember where I heard it, but someone made a good point that Julia Robert's classy red dress with white gloves is the more memorable outfit from the movie, but the mom chose the hooker outfit instead.

 

I can't help but think of smurfs when I see that Pretty Woman costume. Even in the movie, I thought of smurfs first.
I hate how much they- the moms- sexualize these little girls. I mean, those are their kids. How and why do they justify putting their child in a semi-sexual situation?

My sister and I, as goblins who grew in the same cave, have a horrible passion for these types of shows. The best part of Toddlers and Tiaras are the little kids who know this is bullshit but they get money/bribes and get the things they want. They sass everyone and say some pretty relatable things tbh

I have 0 interest in wedding shows but my sister loves them. There was a show once where 3 or 4 brides go to each others weddings and pick which one they like the best (can't vote for themselves ofc) and the winner gets a sweet honeymoon. One episode, I was told, one of the brides had the shittiest picky eater habits and ordered nuggets and fries off the kids menus at the other weddings. I can't even.

That's hilarious and I wish I knew which show that's in. They all kind of blur together after too long.

 

The show is called Four weddings. I saw that episode. Eeeeeveryone has something to bitch about on that show, even on the Canadian version of it.

 

It's a supply and demand market. The stations aren't the ones demanding these trashy shows, we are.

Reminded they use the term "Channel Drift", as well as "Network Decay" to describe what happened to channels like TLC and the rest. It really came down to the LCD pandering.

You may not ask for it but a good many have. I prefer how TLC used to be also. However, if I were in the shoes of the people running the station, I'd do the same thing they are.
