Takarazuka Revue is an all female Japanese musical theatre troupe that's over 100 years old. They preform lavish productions, primarily of Western stories. One of these stories is about the life of JFK.

Premiering in 1995, it tells the story of John F. Kennedy, from his time in the Navy, replacing his brother as his father's hope for being President, campaigning, meeting Jackie, working with Martin Luther King Jr., becoming President, dealing with the Soviets, and eventually his death. I was surprised at how accurate this play was at times.

I became interested in this play after seeing a clip online and actually managed to get a copy of the soundtrack from ebay. Several months later I found video of the musical itself on VK.com (basically Russian facebook). I spent several months overlaying the audio from my CD over the one hour and forty minute long video to improve the quality. Then I used the lyric book the CD came with to start translating the songs. I have a couple random songs done and would like to have the whole thing translated some day.

Flashback to JFK's time in the Navy and meeting his friend Paul "Red" Fay. His nickname was actually Red, even though it's not mentioned on his wikipedia page.

J.Edgar Hoover pissed off that JFK is going to become President and the Inauguration.

Bobby Kennedy introducing JFK's "Knight's of the Oval Office".

Martin Luther King and his church confront JFK about wanting they're civil rights.

If anyone notices anything in my translations that could be improved, let me know.

This is interesting, I must say.

I'm gonna look more into Takarazuka productions now.

You know Osamu Tezuka, basically the guy who codified modern manga?
I've read in a book that he lived near Takarazuka when he was very young, and those women portraying feminine men in lavish productions were a big inspiration to him on his work.

Especially Princess Sapphire, which is often cited as the shoujou manga genre-launcher.

And his manga works containing a lot of crossdressers, feminine males...
