A lot of the fetish fuckery in EU worked like that. You couldn't prove it was meant to be sexual, but you could defiantly tell what the author had in mind.

Major Mandalorian Armor fetish going on in general. If it's not Fett, it's someone dressed exactly like him.

Wasn't the Star Wars galaxy invaded by some extragalactic aliens after the events of Return of the Jedi in EU?

Yes, in a series that went on for 19 fucking books. At that point it didn't even feel like Star Wars anymore. Timothy Zahn said it got too dark and Michael A Stackpole (who worked on the series) didn't have very high opinions on it. Even one of the higher-ups at Lucasfilm said it was a mistake.

^^ Anyone read this? It's basically a set of short stories that tell the backstories of the background characters in the Mos Eisley cantina. Seem to remember from my teenage years that it was a lot of fun.

    Fixed that for you.

Personally, I tend to take anything that people describe as "torture porn" with a grain of salt. For a while I remember the words "torture porn" being used to describe too many things, usually due to complete ignorance and/or a desire to get more views on Youtube videos and articles online. "Times when characters got hurt," on a video dealing with Spongebob characters won't get a lot of views, but "Spongebob torture porn" will definitely attract attention. Heck, horror films with graphic deaths (a staple of horror films, but I wouldn't really consider many horror deaths torture porn") were labeled as 'torture porn' just to attract attention.

I'd have to read the books with the so-called 'torture porn' to see for myself and form my own opinion.

    Wow.

How did they manage to draw it out for that long?

We live in a world where The Simpsons can draw out a series of stories about a family and a small town for nearly 30 years and literally hundreds of episodes. I imagine a series of books about an entire universe of characters who, theoretically, can have absolutely no relation with each other could draw out the series for at least 19 books.

Also, I think I might have actually read a couple of books in the expanded universe series. If I remember right, Obi Wan had a love interest at some point named (I don't know if this is right) Bant (or something else).

To be honest, a lot of shit happens in those books:

Chewbacca dies, Ben Skywalker's born, Anakin Solo dies, Courscant gets invaded, Jacen gets captured by the Yuuzhan Vong and learns how to commune with Coruscant's worldbrain, the Mandalorians show up to help kick the Vong's arses, etc.

But still, 19 books is excessive. And you have duologies and a trilogy within that book series and one of the books (Star By Star) goes on for 645 pages. A lot of shit happened in the Thrawn Trilogy too, but that was done in three books.

To be honest though, none of the padding will rival Legacy of the Force. That story could easily have been done as a trilogy, and been better for it, but they ran it out for nine painful books for God knows what reason.

So alongside the story of Jacen Solo falling to the Dark Side you also have stupid shit like Boba Fett's quest for his long lost daughter and the training a Jedi to kill a Jedi because of Karen Traviss's hard-on for Mandalorians.

I never read any of the books, but I did enjoy the shit out of games like KOTOR, Empire at War and The Force Unleashed.

Seems like Disney made the right choice when they dropped the EU from SW canon.

Maybe just the original trilogy or even just the first movie could've been enough for SW canon.

Same, although I enjoyed some of Timothy Zahn's books. I met him at a convention one time too and he's really nice in person.

I strongly recommend his new book Thrawn if you haven't read it yet. Not quite up to Heir to the Empire standards, but well worth a read.

So now that Di$ney dropped EU from canon, is EU still being expanded and built on?

The original one is over - no new material's being published (with the exception of The Old Republic MMORPG which is still up and running), but there's a new EU which reuses a lot of the best elements of the old one. It's the best of both worlds really. I've heard people ask for new stories in the original EU continuity but I don't really see the point since they covered so much ground there was very little left to work with by the end. The only thing that's slightly sad is that Timothy Zahn hinted at a sequel to his standalone novel Scoundrels which won't happen now, but on the other hand I think Scoundrels works fine as its own thing.
