I heard the whole "brony" circus started with funposting on 4chan.

Then again, there is "Poe's Law" - especially with people like "Chris Chan".

 

Over on KF there's stories of "Rufus" - a guy who attacked a restaurant manager after getting fired.

With a plastic lightsaber, dressed as a Jedi.

It's like the CWC and GAMe PLACe or December 2014 incidents, but more like something out of Sonichu.

 

Definitely true, but I think that's just a matter of probability, given how huge and long-lasting it is. There's just something about the influence of Twy'lieght Ssp'arkyle, The Pastel One, that really brought out the crazy in people.

The short answer is that he wouldn't be Chris. I could see him enjoying the Ewoks cartoon. Not as a Star Wars fan but a fan of forgotten 80s cartoons.

 

I wonder if Chris ever saw the made-for-TV Ewok movie. Old people here know what I'm talking about.

 

But would that be better or worse if he was into ST or SW?

And what if he was into fantasy like Lord of the Rings or the Legend of Zelda series?

Either way, I doubt he would've invented Sonichu then. Chris was really into the "contemporary SF" and "contemporary fantasy" of sanic and pocketmons when Sonichu was invented.

 

I'm pretty sure Chris Chan was into The Legend of Zelda, considering two of his useless electric hedgehogs are blatant ripoffs of Link and Zelda.

 

Yeah, but not that much.

The parroting of Zelda in Sonichu is more like an afterthought that's there a little, then not even mentioned.

 

Better? He'd have to work a lot harder to stand out. Sonichu is one thing but I don't think people would have the same reaction to Spock-3PO.

 

Do you think it takes more intelligence to get into ST and SW* than speedy "way past cool" hedgehog and monsters of the pocket?

*(even though the "science" in them is unrealistic)

 

Sonic and Pokemon are made for children. Not saying adults should not be fans, there's really nothing wrong with that, but they specifically cater to a younger audience. Kids like Star Wars/Star Trek too but they tend to gravitate toward things like the Droids, Ewoks and Tribbles and the various types of vehicles and ships. Anything you can make a toy out of. Then they can work their way toward the lore and characterizations.

I think it has less to do with "intelligence" and more to do with maturity.

I like how this crossover has no introduction whatsoever. No explaination of how they met, no telling us who these characters are or what Planet Dolan is, just "HEY, DOLAN. NICE TO MEET YOU."

That's true but Chris is his own target audience. Sonichu as a comic is like somebody trying to explain a cool dream they had. To them it was an incredible experience but the rest of us have no idea what's going on.

 

It's pretty amusing that the one time an infodump would have been somewhat excusable (or at least better,) Chris opts for not saying anything instead for the first time ever.

 

Funny you mentioned these points and bronies. I can recall one that didn't want the label who ended up being converted from gay to straight just because he thought a pastel unicorn was his waifu that communicated to him via a plushie of the character, who he later put into some little makeshift BDSM stage for said plush and some other brony who drank wine and took datura or some other substance to think he'd enter the world of MLP or at least imagine one of the characters was real. That said for the fandom aside from what Cyan has stated, the fandom even at its best will still be filled with spergs who'll bitch about how the latest batch is either the worst thing since AIDS or the best thing since sliced bread.

More or less with its /co/ board. Some thought it was a nice cartoon and of course, cue people that took any shitposting seriously and going overboard with the cartoon. Then again, the 2010's also had toon spergs so even without 4chan anons, MLP could still get that brony fanbase by some other means.

At least the arrest of Chris for elder abuse and incest manages to spare people of anymore pages for this. Then again, that could also be a bad thing.

 

Friendship Is Magic is not a bad children's show. It's a glorified toy commercial like every MLP show from the last 40 years but it respected its audience and (originally) wasn't a thinly veiled show for thirtysomethings like Steven Universe or The Owl House.

But people can't simply like things anymore without making it their whole identity. What I remember most about the early days of the Brony fandom was the preemptive hostility. "Yeah, I like the colorful pony show. What, you wanna fight about it?"
