Of course people have already latched on to the Blepe guy.

 

I know Pepe became a symbol for racists and the like, but no one has ever really explained how racists/alt right people came to choose that as their symbol.

 

They didn't.
It's a joke that got taken seriously by morons with no sense of humour and people just ran with it because it's funny.

So basically, similar to what's going on with Shia Lebeouf getting trolled by "Pro Trump" trolls.

It's not that these trolls like Trump, they just like when Shia chimps out at them.

Pepe was more a chan thing, a lot of chan types claim Nazism and such because it's fun for winding up lefties and next thing you know it gets taken seriously.
I mean, a cartoon pothead frog who's quote is "feels good man" is hardly what you'd pick as a serious right wing icon.

 

I was legit wondering about it for awhile, not just why lefties were getting so worked up about what was a blatant troll bait, but why, of all symbols, they chose Pepe.

I was saying the same thing to myself as when I read the story about the trolls driving Shia up a wall:
"You know they're only doing that because they can see it's getting you mad, for fuck's sake...."

 

I'm sure killing off a non-existing cartoon frog will change the cultural whirlpool we one and all find ourselves in. Such bravery, much noble, etc. etc.

 

I just love how naive some people are. The cartoonist really seems to think that by killing off this character, the trolls are suddenly gonna go "Oh shit.....hold up guys, Pepe's dead now, we're gonna have to move on to something else....."

 

Clinton trotting out that frog as a Nazi symbol to vote against was both the low and high points of decision 2016

It was the catalyst for all the reportage surrounding that frog. Some poor intern was forced to write that tripe and everyone ran with it lol

 

I read the article. I can understand why the artist killed him off even if it probably wont work, He was doing what he could to try and derail something he made being corrupted into the complete opposite.

 

He wrote a comic about a frog and his friends that sit around smoking pot and talking shit.
I guess that's the sort of thing some right wing crew object to but he hardly wrote Pepe as a card carrying socialist.
As far as I know he was perfectly happy with people using his frog for memes until the clinton media frenzy over her gibberish.
I'd say it has a lot more to do with general attention whoring than him being outraged at his creation being "corrupted".
