This is why you should never Chris money for a "service" unless you're donating it out of pity.

Even donating out of pity is a dumb idea, as DStecks proved.

Why do people give Chris money anyway? I know some have done it to "troll" Chris.

I think it's so that they can get updates when he posts them, as well as the Patreon rewards he offers. People often bring up how his Patreon earnings routinely shrink at a certain point each month when someone stops pledging money once they get their reward or whatever it is. I think some people speculate that the reason Chris is so hesitant about fulfilling paid obligations is because people have screwed him over in various ways when he does so, and the Patreon thing is a good example of that.

I mean, how many times has he sold his medallions and/or amiibos to people only so that they could smash them, burn them, return them at his expense and write negative reviews about his customer service? Hell, if I were him I'd be hesitant every time a person offered me money for anything.

True, but he still has a responsibility to keep up with his obligations. He should be hesitant, but not giving people a product they've paid for is never okay.

What people do with their property has nothing to do with Chris. I’m pretty sure Apple doesn’t give two shits when some asshole buys the newest iPhone/iPad/iWhatever and smash it in a YouTube video.

If you purchased something and were unhappy with the item, would you keep it and be unsatisfied or would you request a refund? If you received an unsatisfactory product, would you really want to pay out of pocket to ship it back when you’ve already paid to have it shipped to you?

Chris gets negative reviews about his customer service because he doesn’t fulfill his end of the transaction. He gets money, uses that money to buy whatever-the-fuck and then he has some sort of crisis or “mental block” or “stress” that he claims prohibits him from producing the merchandise that has already been paid for.

True, but then again Chris will spend an hour or so making each medallion by hand, Apple uses an assembly line to make their stuff. I could definitely see him feeling at least a little bad about seeing people destroy the products that he worked to make.

Also, we all know that a number of people buy products for him for the sole purpose of leaving negative reviews regardless of the level of customer service he provides. We also know that a number of people purchase things from him for the sole purpose of being as difficult a customer as possible. I'm not saying that he shouldn't fulfill his paid obligations, just that I could see how fulfilling his paid obligations can be much more hassle than it's worth, and there aren't any consequences if he doesn't ship out the medallions/amiibos.

Edit: I forgot to mention that for some of the items he ships he pays for the shipping. So, having to be charged twice when a product is returned to him probably wouldn't be fun. Especially not when the weens doing this talk about returning his products on Kiwi Farms. Something else we know about Chris is that he routinely views the site, so it's very likely that he reads what weens say they'll do to the things they buy from him and that makes him more hesitant. He'll also see comments from guys like Fulmango who'll say they'll continue to buy things from him whether or not he actually sends the products or makes the videos they pay for.

Sorry if my playing devil's advocate is coming on a bit strong. It's just that there are certain things that I strongly emphasize with Chris about. I used to write fanfiction commissions for extra money and I quit doing that because I had to deal with similar customers to what I imagine Chris has to deal with, and people who would always make me out to be in the wrong when I complained. Eventually I just stopped bothering with the whole 'business', I finished all of the commissions I had, and stopped taking anymore.

    There’s your problem right there.

When you are offering a service or product, you are doing something at someone’s request. Instead of getting butthurt when someone didn’t like what you did or the customer was difficult, you could’ve easily refunded their payment and moved on. It’s your time and your work, therefore, if the amount of frustration or abuse you’re getting from the buyer exceeds the amount of time and effort on your end, you can amicably end the transaction instead of arguing and throwing a tantrum. “Complaining” is bad customer service. By no means do you take abuse, but if your work is not satisfactory to the buyer, then you should understand that they will have constructive criticism.

It’s well documented that Chris spends the money he’s paid before he provides the service/merchandise. No matter how you want to spin it, or what excuse you want to make, that’s bad customer service and bad business management. You do not spend payment prior to the transaction being completed, to cover your own ass in case something happens (illness, unexpected family issue, etc.) and you aren’t able to follow through in a timely fashion. Chris doesn’t do this as, like I said, he spends the money immediately upon receipt.

Chris offering free shipping is something he sees other people do and thinks that it’s an incentive for people to purchase from him. What he doesn’t realize is that most sellers/businesses often ship in bulk and save on shipping through business accounts or are able to compensate for shipping without taking a loss (by extra profit from other online/eBay sales or the item’s price more than covers the worth or the item’s shipping cost will still earn a profit).

In the end, what Chris does or does not see online in regards to his sales does not impact any of us (unless someone feels it necessary to send him money for something.) He can believe what he wants (as he is wont to do) about what people say on Kiwi Farms or here or wherever he lurks.

You aren’t playing devil’s advocate or empathizing with Chris. You are projecting your own hurt fee-fee’s onto someone who doesn’t understand much more than, “If I do x, I’ll get $ because since I think x is good, so does everyone else."

The thing is, even if I offered a refund often times that wouldn't end things between me and a difficult customer. You can take a look at Twitter or Deviantart to see people using the comments section to harass artists/writers after a refund on a commission. Some guy going off on all of your social media accounts for a few hours ranting about how terrible you are is a good way to get potential customers to purchase a commission from one of the hundreds of other options available, whether any of the things people are saying about you is true. Again, in the case of Chris, we know that people buy things from Chris specifically so they can do stuff like that.

Also, you need to take into consideration that you have people like Hirtes who will try to get a free commission out of you even after you've finished the commission they paid for. I used to have this happen all the time, where I'd finished a fanfiction for someone, then they'd say that they hated what I wrote and requested a second, and often a third. Keep in mind that in this business PR is the most important thing, even above the quality of your work, so if someone threatens to trash you on Reddit and/or go on a Hirtes-esque crusade on Twitter, there's a good chance that you might never get another commission again because of some jackass who wanted something for free. I haven't even mentioned that if you relied on commissions like these as your full-time job (rather than supplementing your income like I did), refunding the money could mean that you aren't able to pay your rent or buy food.

I'm not saying that Chris shouldn't be held accountable for the fact that he accepted money for things that he never delivered to customers. What I'm saying is that conducting a business online, especially in the artistic industry, is one the most difficult and stressful things there is. When you take into account that Chris is obviously mentally incapable of functioning well even at a job at Wendy's, the fact that everything he does is under intense scrutiny, he already has to deal with an army of obsessive weens and trolls trying to make his life difficult, and people making plans to be difficult customers and then bragging about it on Kiwi Farms, you can see how it would be legitimately stressful for him. I don't think he's right to avoid fulfilling his paid obligations, but I don't think it's right to say "Oh, stinky winky doesn't want to fulfill his paid obligations out of stress, what a baby! He pretty much got free money for making some crappy art projects. I could handle it, why can't he?"

I get defensive about it because I emphasize with the artists who survive on commissions and the internet personalities like Doopie who have to deal with shit like what I had to deal with (keep in mind, I dealt with a lot despite working hard on my commissions and being very small-time), on a larger scale as a professional personality/lolcow. I don't like it when people like you say "Oh, your fee fees got hurt because you had to work a little bit for your money," in regards to people like Chris (or Doopie, or that furry artist who had to deal with Hirtes a few years ago). In construction I had to work for an hour sweeping the floor at my own pace in an empty house after the crew was done working for the day to make $15. When I was taking commissions I would have to deal with two hours of work actually making the commissions, and maybe an hour or two of extra bullshit per customer, for about $20. A little cheap, I guess, but I know a number of people who charge $15 just to compete with others and work just as hard. Again, Chris has the tugboat, so he doesn't have the excuse of actually needing the money, it's a case of just wanting it to buy nice things, but I also know that every Amiibo took him about the same amount of time. I also know that for a time he did fulfill orders at a decent place, and then he started complaining about stress, so I suspect he went through a similar experience to mine on a more extreme scale.
tl;dr.
If a commissioner has absurd requests and tries to scam you out of work, there’s a high possibility that they did the same to others. The way you handle said customer is what will make or break your reputation, not if someone spergs across social media. Doopie took all the bullshit from Chris and his trolls like a goddamn champ. She was professional and responded respectfully, yet sternly.

From what it sounds and judging by your posts here, you do not take criticism well and respond like the petulant children you claim to have dealt with.

I still think Doopie had the patience of a fucking saint. I would not have handled her situation very well and the way she handled it was definitely mature and makes me highly respect her.

The fact Chris still stalks her kinda upsets me.

Sorry if this is off topic.

lol, reminds me of how he almost fucked up the Sonic Totem sale. Only Chris would get $1,500 for a middle school arts and crafts project, blow it on bling and then run out of money for shipping the goddamn thing.

I dunno if Doopie's a good example. I mean, she did go on to leak his emails to her on KF. Even it was about Chris, leaking private emails isn't good for a professional image.

That’s true. Up until her breaking point, which seems to have been the creepy e-mails Chris was sending her, on top of the constant harassment from all the Twitter retards, and the oddly specific “suggestion” for pony porn, she made a valid attempt at handling everything as professionally as possible.

If it was anyone else, sure. But such an act was one of the few things that would have spelled it out to chris that she was not interested in him.
