I really haven't seen any of the episodes before the "Mike, Pearl, and Crow with a new voice" era. How do they compare?

A lot of people think, with the Sci-Fi Channel era episodes of MST3K, that the riffs were more.....mean spirited I think would be the best way to describe it. The Comedy Central era, to some, had a more light hearted "Heh, let's make good natured fun of these movies" feel, while the newer episodes were just "OH MY GOD, THESE MOVIES SUCK, LET'S RIP THEM APART!"

Joel had a lot more of a dry delivery. It makes some people find his episodes boring, but I enjoy them a lot.

Joel always kinda reminded me of a really laid back, stoner type in the way he delivered his lines sometimes.

Not a bad thing mind you, but he was *a lot* more subdued then Mike.

The story I read somewhere was that when he was pitching the show, he spent the entire night before nervous and building props so he was completely exhausted when the time came. They thought the sleepy thing worked, so he kept it as a character trait.

Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm sure Joel was more then happy to keep playing the "sleepy eyed, stoner-esque dude" if execs thought it worked.

My friend and I noticed something during the museum scene in Cry Wilderness. When shot from behind you can see Bigfoot swaying. They actually got a guy in costume and told him to stand there as still as possible.

If you liked Repltilicus, I expect you would like some of the B-movie MST3K monster movies like Gamera or Beast of Yucca Flats or a dozen other monster films I can't remember at the momenT.

I can't call myself a Kaiju movie nut just yet but I'm working on it. From what I heard about Gamera I'd probably legitimately enjoy it. When I saw that MST3K did five of those movies I got a little excited.

Of the five they did, the two standouts (at least in my opinion) are Gamera and Gamera vs. Guiron, the latter which gave us the MST3K cover of the Gamera song.

Slowly but surely making my way through the Netflix season. So far, to me anyway, not a dud in the bunch.

I kinda wish that they had put StarCrash in between Avalanche and The Beast of Hollow Mountain since those two are basically drawn out domestic dramas that finally build up to the disaster/monster in the last twenty minutes of the film. Obviously, this is just an aesthetic quibble. I've really been enjoying what they've been doing with these episodes. I've had a few friends who don't care for the original series who have really enjoyed these new ones since the references are a bit more accessible to them.

So, any of you guys complete watching this Netflix season now?

    If so, overall thoughts?

I've watched ten episodes and think it's a really strong season. I've heard about the cliffhanger they used on the finale, but I'm just going to follow the advice of the theme song and relax. Like the original show, rewatching has been very rewarding. I usually watch them alone at first, and then I'll have some friends over and plow through about three of them. As I said earlier, Cry Wilderness is now an all time favorite episode. And it's pretty cool having a brand new classic episode almost eighteen years after the show ended. I'm glad the show's back and I hope it never goes away again.

I liked the riff of Phantom Planet.

"Are you a spy for the Solarites?"

Have there been any reports on ratings of any kind for the reboot?

No, Netflix doesn't really release that info. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if a renewal (should it happen) were to happen in time for a Comic Con announcement.

Rifftrax is having a 4th of July sale, ya'll. Enter the promo code "BBQ" for a discount. Never been a better time to give Rifftrax a try if you've never seen it before.

I won tickets to see the live show and had a great time. They are doing two shows. The first is a new riff on Eegah and the second (the one I saw) is what you'd get if Secret Agent Super Dragon had a baby with Samson vs the Vampire Women.
