So far, from what I've read, the reviews for this newest season have been almost unanimously positive.

This gives me a lot of hope for this reboot.

My only quibble is that there are 3-4 instances in the first episode in which they start saying the riff a split second before the visual prompt is fully on screen, so it appears like they are telegraphing the joke. I know some people are having issues telling Jonah and Tom apart in the theater, but that might have more to do with us, the audience, not being familiar with the various voices they use in the movie (and, upon rewatching the first episode, it looks like they use silly voices a lot more than the original show, though that may have to do with them matching the accents in the film). For any Paul and Storm fans here, they provided a song for this episode.

IIRC, throughout the original run of the show, this sort of thing happened on occasion (a joke coming in slightly before the visual cue). It's a minor thing though.

It happened because they would watch the movie three times, taking notes and timestaps for the jokes, then pick between them to get the most humor out of the least overlap. Sometimes they might've been off a couple seconds on when a joke was made or started saying their lines a little early.

I'll say this, besides the whole weird "Oh, Servo can float now" thing, it was an absolute delight to watch.

Servo could always hover. There was just a grate on the right-hand side of the theater that he needed Mike/Joel to carry him over. The one time they came in from the other side, he hovered to his seat.

Knowledge of MST3k canon is possibly the least useful knowledge in the world.

I recall Tom mention in one episode to having a "hover skirt" for the bottom part of his body, but yeah, that was more than enough to clue me in!

At least they preserve that! Does Crow get to use his?

Maybe it was just me, but during the opening segment of Reptilicus, Servo does a "shrug" motion, and his arms did move slightly. I wasn't sure if it was just his arms being wobbly, or if they were attempting to change that whole "His arms don't work" joke.

    Also, while on the subject

Gypsy's new voice......am I the only one not digging it? I guess I'm just so used to her more comedic jokey voice that her having an actual serious sounding voice is kinda out of left field.

I've just watched three episodes and Cry Wilderness might be one of my favorites of the entire series. Wouldn't be surprised if people are already scouring social media sites to see if they can track down some of the cast and crew.

So far, episode wise, my favorites, by a mile, are Reptilicus and The Land That Time Forgot.

Oh man, Rifftrax has some great stuff, both for modern movies and the standard MST3K-style B movies. Def would recommend any MST3K fan check it out.

Watched the 1st episode of the Netflix reboot, loving it so far. Lots of callbacks to classic MST3K riffs, Wil Wheaton cameo appearance was an unexpected gem.

On a whim I decided to try the show for the first time. My only exposure was the Manos episode (which I only had playing in the background) and a few of the shorts. I really loved the Reptilicus episode. It helped that I probably would have still enjoyed the movie without any of the jokes. Cry Wilderness was so pointless after Paul gets back home that I started nodding off until the bizarre appearance of Red Hawk. After these two episodes it looks like I'm going to finally do what people have been trying to get me to do for a decade and pick up MST3K.

If you want a good episode to start on, I suggest 301- Cave Dwellars.

Some movies they riff are so mind-numbingly boring that the snark can barely salvage them into something watchable, especially I Accuse My Parents. Which has actually become funnier in hindsight because they mostly point out how the protagonist is an idiot who thinks himself smart and whines until other people give him the solution he needs for the plot to advance.
