Not really. Apprantly Nintendo was having production issues, at least with the first party controllers.

I thought about getting Switch around launch since for once in fucking years i can get a console. But after so thinking, I've decide against solely cause they are barely any games at launch. yeah there is Zelda, but its not enough for 300 dollar purchase and having to leave to collect dust until mario comes out. So i going too wait until Mario comes to buy one. since by then there should be enough games out by then. So i suck it up and play BoTW on my dusty Wii U. Also why the fuck is Nintendo still fucking supporting 3DS, they really like making really dumb dedications. I love them, but fucking Christ they make so many horrible choices (Wii U, and too many list).

Is the Switch a complete replacement for the 3DS or just the Wii U?

I know the advantage of Switch is being able to be a handheld but unlike the Wii U Nintendo isn't stopping the production of 3DSs yet.

The Switch is meant to coexist with the 3DS.

Since Nintendo is pushing the portable part of the Switch. it safe to say yes, but the failure of the Wii U is causing Nintendo to be more cautious. They are too afraid to let go of the 3DS since it manged to make money at a time when the Wii U was hurting them. they saying they will coexist for now but that total bullshit. I'd say the 3DS has at most one more year of life, before most devs abandon it. but even then its on life support.

    IKR.
I knew the WiiU has supply problems because Nintendo wants everybody to forget their little mistake. I assumed that there would be no issue getting my hands on a console that already has its install base. Should have seen the look on my face when a store clerk told me that the new 3ds's were "recalled" (caught me off guard)*.
    * Tl;DR I looked into it later and it seems Nintendo had a black Friday deal and Pokemon Sun and Moon helped moved those units out of stores and Nintendo is totes wonderful at inventory forecasting.

Wasn't just the WiiU, NES Classic, and 3DS. The Wii had a shortage issue. So did the N64. I think the SNES had a shortage too.

Nintendo likes to create artificial shortages to give the illusion of demand.

I think Nintendo would do quite well if they would just stop trying to make the next "Gimmick of the Now" console and just abandon their consoles completely. Aside from handheld they're been a generation behind for ages. As I see it, if they decided to produce their popular titles for other modern consoles they might even make up for the money they don't make from sales, Because they have a larger potential user-base and not only that, but the games can take advantage of modern limitations instead of those of three years ago. Most diehard fans are fans of the titles Nintendo owns, not the hardware they shill out, so the guy who is going to buy a new Switch just to play Smash and Zelda is probably going to spend the same amount for a used PS4 or Xbox One, assuming they probably don''t already own one or both.
Edit: And they could also use an online platform that isn't full on exceptional.

Going third party would be a horrible thing for the company. They wouldn't be expanding their audience very much, if at all and would only have their games compete in a more crowded market. What about their handheld titles as well? Why abandon successful handheld games that do well in both the west and in Japan in favor of sticking them consoles? And for what reason would they have to switch to Sony, one of which is their main competitors in Japan and Xbox an almost exclusively a western console? They would also have pretty much like, no reason to work on anything but Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem and possibly Kirby. goodbye other franchises also say goodbye to potentially hundreds of manufacturing jobs

Nintendo games don't even require the power, the power the Wii U attained was just fine, the only thing you could do at this point is either make the graphics prettier or in rare instances have a game where having as much shit on the as possible makes the game better, and it's pretty obvious the industry only cares about the former

I mean my main point is that fans these days care about the franchise not the console. And as far as I'm concerned the consoles (I did say the handhelds were still a market for them) aren't ever worth buying for a few games. I just don't see why they bother making these new consoles but I suppose if people keep buying them it doesn't matter if I get it or not. It's just not worth buying a console for three games as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think SNK or SEGA would love being third party though.

Besides Nintendo expanding its games to mobile platforms while still making their own consoles/handhelds is good.

How Nintendo is handling Mobile is probably one of the few they doing right. Yeah its far from perfect the whole thing that is Mario Runner is example pf not doing it great. But They basically using their Mobile games as advertisement for they main consoles release. Pokemon Go explored in popularity for a few mouths then died fast, But if sales of Sun and Moon are to go by. Pokemon Go got a lot of folks interested Pokemon again. Hell I expect Nintendo to make mobile games of all their series to gauge the wants of the public. Then if playing a kinda crap mobile F-zero can get a real F-Zero game made then I am cool with it

Ever since Pokemon GO was released, Nintendo's 3DS sales have increased along with their OR/AS and X/Y sales too due to advertisement so it's a good plus for them. That and Sun/Moon became Nintendo's most pre-ordered games too.

Mario Run could've been handled better too which I agreed. I still got it installed on my phone, completed the first three stages and got all the coins there but never bothered to pay $10 just for 5 more areas, and it reached the point where I got maximum Toad Rally tickets that I don't bother anymore lol (99)
