FB 5/11 - Chris in the running for Best Local Minor Celebrity (6/3 - Chris lost, mad at trolls)

Well, this took a strange turn.

You see, what happened is that Chris-related entries were spammed on the nomination thing, so a lot of them were removed or had their vote count reset. Fair enough I guess.

But now, this VA Doe guy is being spammed on unrelated categories, but I assume he is much more boring than Chris because the spam entries are things like 'VA Doe' and 'VA Doe's house'.

This whole campaign is getting weirder and spergier by the day...

 

It's a possibility that there's something in the water in C-Ville that causes the people to act strangely. Maybe Chris thought he could cure homosexuality in C-Ville by bleeding into the water stream on a daily basis for about a week, and the blood tainted the minds of the citizens of C-Ville (or, more likely, just VA-Doe).

But in all seriousness, it's been a while since we've had something like this. It seems 2017 is going to be a big year for Chris and his stalkers followers.

 

Someone get Eric Brockovich on the phone, stat!

 

As a person who has had to be webmaster for broken polls like this in the past, part of me sympathizes...

...and the larger part of me is sighing that in this day and age people would be so naive as to have a write-in option.

 

Once upon a time I was a moderator in a somewhat busy forum, then one day a troll appeared and started messing with a couple of threads. I sent him a private message telling him to stop being an ass, then he started to be more of an ass. The more attention people gave him (whether it was me sending him a message, or people on the forum). What I ended up doing is banning him after he refused to listen, and whenever he showed up again I would ban his newly created account. He started sending me messages every time he created an account saying how terrible I was, which just made him easier to ban.

Really, the experience taught me the lesson that the best way to deal with troublesome users is to just ban them outright after a short warning rather than give them the attention they want. But, what ended up happening is that after the guy finally gave up his trolling, the forum kind of died. It turned out that the troll and his antics were what was keeping the users interested in the forum. Without him, interest dwindled and the forum died.

So, I guess a little drama is kind of good, and perhaps I should have given the troll a little more slack so that he could have messed around a bit and created a little drama. I guess a good online community should have good and bad elements, and moderators who understand this.

 

Yeah, I've seen forums that died out when the trolls were banned, usually because the trolls were the most entertaining thing on the forum.

It's usually a sign of a poorly run forum when the only thing keeping people around are trolls doing gimmick posts.

 

Well, considering I was asked to be a mod with no experience whatsoever, I would say it was pretty poorly run. I think that what happened is that interest in the main threads on the forum were dying due to the cartoons and shows we discussed being cancelled, so the users started moving to other sites that discussed newer cartoons and shows that our forum didn't. When it was the only discussion forum for a few slightly obscure cartoons and shows we had a bunch of interested users itching to discuss with others, when we started adding Adventure Time threads and Game Of Thrones threads when there were hundreds of better ones with more users, the forum declined.

I haven't thought about this in a few years.

 

No, I get what you're saying. What I mean is forums that are on the decline and don't make an effort to revive themselves that, basically, are on life support and only stay around because trolls come in and run amok for shits and giggles.

 

What's really sad about all this is that Chris is probably C-ville's greatest minor celebrity.

 

At this point I think the best we can do is vote for Clyde Cash, as someone pointed out before.

 

Maybe if he used his actual fucking name, people would know who he is

 

People who see Christian Love Day must think it's about Christianity lol.

 

It seems that people putting anything chris related in the lists are being more subtle about it. I keep voting for Bob's lumberjack bar and grill.

 

There is hope yet!

Well that's the obvious conclusion, you need to know it was made up by a guy named Christian rather than a guy who is a Christian to know its meaning.
