So the Congratulations/Mistborn thread was just a shitpost but I figured since at least three members here have actually read some of Sanderson's work, it deserved an actual thread.

My favorites in order:

Spoiler: Stormlight Archives

Currently four books and two novellas. Most of the characters in this one are fantastic, the world feels incredibly real and immersive, and also there's a character in it with the same personality as @ToroidalBoat , and his name is Pattern.

My only complaint is that the first book is an absolute bitch to get through for the first 3/4ths, especially if you haven't read his prior stuff. But holy shit I don't regret sticking with it.

Spoiler: Mistborn

Six, going on seven books, plus a novella. This is probably the darker, bleaker series in this universe. Takes place on a planet that got fucked up by some moron trying to play god, and then decided that the only way to protect everything was to ban technological advancement and also ban the people who don't like him from having superpowers.

Unfortunately for this guy he is incredibly incompetent, and the people who don't like him get superpowers anyways. People eat metal, kill god a few times and make a religion out of it. Then the wild west happens.

Kelsier is in it. He is the best.

Spoiler: Sixth of the Dusk

In this one birds have superpowers. They keep showing this one guy how he's going to die whenever he might make a wrong decision, so he keeps making smart decisions instead. Aliens want to take over.

Spoiler: Warbreaker

Rainbow princesses, a good boy god-king, and an angry man with a superpowered sword that is way too happy to be with the angry man.

Spoiler: The Emperor's Soul

You wouldn't download a king, would you?

Spoiler: Elantris

A princess and an undead prince overthrow religion. Also the bad guy decides he's in love with the princess for some reason. Not the best. Takes place on the same planet as the Emperor's Soul but it's actually really hard to tell that.

 

The fact that you feel the need to point this out means you'd totally be Pattern.

Now, Pattern is what is called a spren, and spren are essentially living ideas. The specific type of spren is a lie-spren, but they prefer to be called Cryptics. Cryptics are beings of pure logic and concrete facts, and anything else is considered a lie. (Although they are absolutely fascinated by lies and are completely drawn to them.)

Because of this, Pattern has a lot of trouble with abstract statements at first.

“What," Pattern said with a hum, "is a chaperone?"
"That is someone who watches two young people when they are together, to make certain they don't do anything inappropriate."
"Inappropriate?" Pattern said. "Such as...dividing by zero?”

He figures it out though.

"You were talking about mating! I’m to make sure you don’t accidentally mate, as mating is forbidden by human society until you have first performed appropriate rituals! Yes, yes. Mmmm. Dictates of custom require following certain patterns before you copulate. I’ve been studying this!"
-Pattern, probably an hour after that first conversation, and in the middle of the date he is supposed to be chaperoning.

So Pattern basically responds to a lot of things that people say or do with a , or at least he would if he had a face.

If Pattern were an actual user on this forum, he'd also ask me about number values assigned to colors.

 

He also provides a perfect response for when Fauna Fox posts a fatfur outside of the Augh Yeah thread.

 

To be fair it's really hard to tell with you lol.

Edit: By the way I hope you don't take offense. I actually really like this character, same with most characters in this series.
