I guess it's a fail attempt at copying the ever-evolving look of Sonic.

I think he was trying to do something like this:
    Untitled.png

But because he didn't have any reference material it came out wrong. It's really weird because he's never drawn eyes like that before, you would think Chris of all people would know how to draw his own characters, especially considering his autistic need for consistency (at least when it comes to character design) and inconsequential details.

inmates love anything that has caffeine and sugar in it
unless Chris is banned from having anything with caffeine in it for health reasons, he can get coffee

People who don't post bail in jail pretty much have nothing to do but wait for their sentence to be handed to them so the only thing to do is find ways to pass time. Soda and coffee for many people is a source of comfort and so it makes sense inmates would seek it out. You can also get a mild high from enough caffeine so that too is desired. In prison it's probably a bit different.

Yup. A buddy of mine has shown me an entire genre of 'prison cooking' videos involving tricks with the microwave and mixing stuff inside empty chip bags. Prisoners will go a long way to enjoy a shitty version of something they can't get on the inside.

for the same reason people in the free world do
they like the taste of sugar and the stimulation from caffeine
add in the effect that jail is a very boring and depressing place and there's more than enough reason for the inmates to seek out soda, coffee, and various sweet snacks

Cigarettes are also big, but I have heard some jails/prisons don't allow inmates to smoke anymore.

Don't inmates use them like currency?

Non-smoker inmates may like that because secondhand smoke can suck.

I mean, that is sort of the stereotype you see in media, but yeah, I think it depends on the state

they use these Mylar envelopes of tuna because they're worth about a dollar each
and a lot of inmates work out and lift weights because there's not a lot to do while locked up, so they need the tuna

The federal government banned all smoking in fed prisons. Most state and local lock ups have since followed suit.

Getting caught with a cigarette in prison is now an offence that will get privileges removed. Selling cigarettes will get your sentence extended.

I guess Chris got lucky there since he was repulsed by smoking.

Yeah, I thought so. A lot of stated banned smoking in restaurants and hospitals as well. Some nursing homes still allow it though.

I think the stereotype of cigarettes as currency is something from a few decades ago when smoking was a lot more common. Soda and candy might serve the same purpose these days.

I was also watching a video from a former correctional officer talking about his experiences, and he said that the other notable stereotype, toilet wine, does actually exist but isn’t as common as you might think. Since Chris is in jail, not prison, he probably doesn’t have the available ingredients to make it.

Then there’s marijuana, which would probably carry severe penalties for using and distributing behind bars, but if Chris knew the right guy I can see him using it to pass the time (he has before).

IIRC the POWs in WWII used cigarettes as currency
I took an econ class in college and anything could be used as currency as long as the value is agreed on, and yeah, I'm sure there are underground currencies used in jails and prisons - tuna packs and other popular commissary items being some of them
if CWC ever goes to prison they can make him work and he'll get paid something like 25 cents an hour - prisoners aren't exactly flush with cash, although weens can and probably will put money on his commissary account

I think he's "done the weed" with the "Teen Troon Squad" - and this was around the time the "Dimensional Merge" delusions took off. Maybe that's why Chris has been going really crazy lately?

lol you've been watching too much reefer madness, I highly doubt Chris has smoked weed since the TTS and even then it was probably only even twice not that weed can make you crazy in the first place. It's true that the dimension merge talk ramped up after meeting TTS, the latest episode of Geno's doc actually covers it, but he was on the whole merge thing before them and apart from the odd mention of weed being alright, Chris has never correlated weed with OCs or the merge. Funnily enough weed was actuality legalized for recreational use April 7th, 2021 right after Chris went to jail.

Chris doesn't need weed to enable his delusions even further.
