Character x Reader fanfiction

DeviantArt is full of this fad garbage that somehow get thousands of views (fucking yaoi fangirls). Judging from the dates, must've all been from the 2014 exodus from Quizilla.

Here's the tag for a quick look-see. And here's an example from someone who's apparently prolific in this. Quoting this entire part because this scene is stupid and rather badly-written compared to the rest of it (shockingly):

 

Yeah, the reader fics is pretty much just Self-Inserting with a "new" twist... and it's often done so that the writer can get their ass kissed is my experience with it. Then again, most writers who do it often are teenage girls last I checked, so not too shocking.

 

Fanfics are great in that they're a great way to learn things while writing and it can be great fun to write, too. Writing self-serving stuff like reader slash is fine and all but when you don't write anything else then you're not growing as a writer.

Also I can't understand how anyone else could read it and find enjoyment out of it. Any sort of detail about "reader" will take you out of it because that's obviously not your body so I can't see how anyone else would like it.

I laughed. This needs a dramatic reading.

 

One thing that bothers me more than it should is that the always tend to be written in a Third or first person style that's edited so that the reader could theoretically have written it instead or that the person being described is the reader. Its such a waste of potential to use the fabled second person writing style.

One day second person, you will have your day in the sun.

 

Goddamnit, you're right, that is such a waste.

Although I did find this, at the very least, so they do exist, but they'd most likely be older stories. And even then, they'd still be trite given the subject matter.

 

I've come across dramatic readings of second-person stories.

I really don't like the use of second person in readerxcharacter fanfics. I hate the genre in general. But second person just breaks any possible immersion and they are usually written so poorly.
When I first stumbled across Hetalia, I thought it was about literal plots of dirt talking... Mostly because I came across a fanfiction for it first; I was confused as hell and started laughing at the notion of a plot of dirt talking and walking.

As a vore enthusiast in general, I can confirm that most of us don't care that real internal organs don't work that way, though I do occasionally like a quick splash of cold reality and a reminder here and there just how ridiculous the whole thing is.

And I thought it was literal porn about the plots of dirt getting up and screwing each other because I was exposed to it primarily through TVTropes' entries on the fanfiction. You know, the same pages that give the impression that Touhou are good games and all the characters are hot lesbians.

 

I was lucky enough to not be exposed to Hetalia porn. It kind of pisses me off that there is so much yaoi in that fandom.
