Character x Reader fanfiction

Character x Reader fanfiction is basically new age Mary Sue fanfiction. It's almost always told from the reader's POV and has them interacting/falling in love/doing the do with fictional characters. Seriously. Type in almost any fictional character from any TV show, movie, game etc. x reader into Google and I can guarantee you there will probably be a fanfic for it.

Whilst there are some well written ones, there are some terrible ones out there, specifically for toxic fandoms, in particular FNAF and Undertale (because most of tumblr wants to fuck the skeletons from Undertale and IDEK why).

I'm OK with the genre to an extent. I've read some interesting fics in this genre but shit, there are some bad ones out there (especially on AO3, which I thought had a vetting process. I guess not). What do those of you who have read fics in this genre think of it?

Oh lord I used to love these when I was like 13. Except back in the day we had them all on Quizilla so you could pick which boy from your favorite anime series would fall in love with you. Those were the days.

Surprisingly, nobody really had reader inserts on fanfiction.net at the time. God I know a lot about dumb girl weeaboo history. At least the weeaboo girls of today now have plentiful fanfiction and animes catered to them full of cute boys.

It's 99% females who read this stuff and I doubt that number has changed much since. As I said in my other post it started with nerdy girls. They couldn't get a bf in real life so things like kissing and holding hands (no sex) was really appealing and that was the ultimate fantasy lmao. It was uncommon to find smutty reader inserts back then since it was usually other preteens writing this stuff.

Another fun fact: back in the day a when a fanfic was not over the edge of smut that was called a "lime". Full on sex was called a "lemon".

But yeah a lot of this appeals to people who crave more emotional ties to sex. If you read some of these some take a long time to build up to the actual sex. It's like sweet in a way but really silly and kind of sad lmao.

 

Hetalia was a mistake.

Because Sans makes puns and is a difficult boss and it's almost impossible not to imagine Papyrus speaking with Skeletor's voice and he's tall. Doesn't matter that they literally don't have dicks or sphincters of any sort so far as we can determine, Tumblr still wants to screw them and DeviantArt wants to inflate and/or get vored by them.

 

Tumblr is a fucking wreck.

The "invite only" user base is a red herring. Once you're in they don't give a fuck about what you post or the quality of the writing. The only real difference between AO3 and FFNet is that AO3 looks a hell of a lot nicer.

 

Every Hetalia-X-Reader story becomes instantly hilarious if you imagine the reader-insert is fucking an actual body of land rather than a kawaii boy.
