Back when I was young in the eons before the internet and we had to get our entertainment by murdering trees, I used to read *a lot* like until my mid 20's, I would go through several books a week, when I was younger I sometimes cleared one book a day. But then I got a smartphone and found Kiwi Farms and my ADHD got so bad I haven't read much in the last decade. So I decided to start reading more and have found myself rebuilding my old book collection. Anyways, because I want ideas for what to read and maybe keep a bit of accountability. So anyways, tell me, nerds, what should I pick up? My preferred genres are Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror. Anyways, Ill post some of the stuff I have in my line up, so you can see what I am reading.

    As of 9-29-22
    Finished:
    The Colour of Magic
    Green Rider
    The Hobbit
    The Light Fantastic

    Reading:
    The Eye of the World

Books I have, in my queue (in no order):
    Lord of the Rings
The Wheel of Time (Will probably be not tanking all these in a row, read one, do something else then to the next one, for sanity reasons.)
Dragonflight (First in the Dragon Riders of Pern series, might do this next.)

Finally finished Green Rider, took me longer than expected because I have been swamped with school and work but it was nice to complete a full-size novel. The book was pretty ok, with some weird choices but I would recommend it. I'm onto the Hobbit, which I have not read in forever.

IDK if you like nonfiction but I'd recommend

    The Unidentified by Colin Dickey
    Soonish by Kelly Weinersmith

the first one examines weird and unknown phenomena and cryptids as folklore (the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch/the Yeti, aliens) - if you like KF I think you'll like reading it
the second one is about emerging technology, which I think is pretty cool - it's written by a biologist but it's very accessible and funny

Likely the most influential books I've read is Heaven and Hell by Swedenborg (1688-1772).

    Also Cosmos by Carl Sagan.

I highly recommend Stars Bleed by Angus Nicneven if you want a good horror inspired Sci Fi. There's also the revelation Space series from Alistair Reynolds if you enjoy a long, depressing sci fi series.

I might have to put wheel of time on my DNF list, it is incredibly dry.

Right up to the part where their village got attacked during Bel Tine.

I did watch the TV series though.

I'm most of the way through Wheel book 1. It's not officially on a DNF list but also I haven't looked at it in months.

I grabbed a book called Duskfall when I was at the dollar tree the other day. I don't know if its any good, but for $1.25 I'm not going to be too mad if it ends up on my DNF list. The back seems to describe it as scuffed Warhammer, so it might be worth something.

Finally finished the Hobbit, kind of forgot how weird the book kind of was but it was nice going back to something I haven't read in decades. I picked up a nice hardbound copy of The Light Fantastic, so it looks like its back to Discworld.

There was this Hobbit audiobook for kids, which I heard as a little kid.

(it was from the 70s or 80s?)

I read the Hobbit in Esperanto once and it was pretty awesome. It was apparently translated by Tolkein's linguist friend William Auld who also wrote many original works of fiction in Esperanto.

Ironically I haven't read the Hobbit in English at all

Continue reading similar works, and then see if you can slowly read what's unfamiliar.

So my last few months have been rough, with school and everything but I finally sat down this week and restarted The Light Fantastic and I'm already almost done, my ability to read and comprehend seems to be picking back up which is nice.
