So, the entire series is on Hulu now. Let's discuss some of our favorite episodes and moments.

    HOLY SHITE MUST REWATCH BRB

Seriously I don't even know where to begin. As a Native Texan who knows that Chili has no beans, good Texas style barbecue has no pork and no sauce, who refers to a fedora as a Tom Landry hat, who does not own a Stetson or wear cowboy boots but who is utterly bewildered by a local animal refuge's efforts to save a coyote rather than just shoot that vermin, it is so hard to find media about Texas that gets it right and conveys that groundswell of pride we have without resorting to caricature. And I have to say it's also hard to find media that shows mainstream socially conservative people as they really are. It's actually kind of sad it takes a cartoon to depict reality but there you go.

So many details of this show are just bang on. I worked for a Buck Strickland or two, I went to school with a Bobby or two (hell I was a Bobby sometimes), I've seen big haired "TV pretty" women on the local news all my life. I don't know any single man (edit or woman) who is Hank or Peggy but they represent the perfect gestalt of the state's culture. It's amazing to see the plantlife and topology of Arlen because yes, much of the state really does look like that! The Luby's stand in that's constantly referenced is so dead on and cracks me up (though that's really subsided in the past 20 years).

Now is it perfect? Of course not nothing is, but it's very good. And I always found it interesting that Mike Judge initially intended to mock and deride, but quickly changed to pandering, but gentle pandering.

Also, I hope the rumored revival can come to pass some day. Even without Lucky and Luanne it'd be worth seeing again.

So many great quotes and moments...

"Soccer was invented by European ladies to keep them busy while their husbands did the cooking." I love this quote especially because it's sublime in its cultural richness and encapsulates the entire Texas zeitgist, because it's everything awesome about Texas in one sentence.

When Bill snaps Boomhauer out of his depression.

I'm probably getting this one wrong but it's something like "Knowledge is not a weapon. Guns are a weapon Peggy. You used to know that!"

The episode where Luanne becomes a home owner and her house mates don't pay their rent and Hank talks to her about being a responsible adult, and how it will never get you any acclaim or favors, but you should do it anyway.

Anything Cotton Hill ever says or does. Oh God laughing right now just thinking of it.

To me, the best episode has to be "Bobby Goes Nuts". THAT'S MY PURSE!!! I DON'T KNOW YOU!!!" That shit was meme material before memes ever even existed.

But yeah, native Texan here too. To me, Mike Judge in general is the only guy to get Texas right. Even Office Space takes place in Texas.

One of the my other favorite episodes has to be the one where Hank tries to reunite Dale with his gay dad.

Mr. Gribble: "Hank! Are you gay?"
Hank: "What? No, I sell propane!"

I just got done watching "The Bluegrass is Always Greener". I know the main plot was Connie's newfound love of bluegrass, but can we discuss the best part of the episode: Boomhauer's singing?

I vaguely remember an episode where they went to a Renaissance Fair.

Also they made a cameo in The Simpsons.

I think this goes without saying, but Bobby is a fucking Sage.

I like that the show went out of it's way at one point to show that not all southern accents are the same. There was an episode where they visited New Orleans and Bobby started talking in a LA accent, and it pissed off Hank.

I misread that as Los Angeles, which would get the same reaction from Hank.

I had to explain that to a French friend of mine. Not only are there different variations of the Southern accent, but even different variations of the Texas accent. Because of how big Texas is, there is no one Texas culture. Different parts of Texas all have their own unique culture to it.

I think it's as good as The Simpsons season 3-10 but my husband strongly disagrees and leaves the room if I put it on. :(

The 4chan post of Dale Gribble was one of the best things that site had.
