I think if it should be made by an American, I would pick Damien Chazelle as he would probably do a great job doing more down-to-earth dramas while giving them epic scopes and scales while adding some dashes of humour. Martin Scorsese can make the biopic his modern epic magnum opus but he may not live to finish the film if it would take nearly a decade to make it.

As for Asian directors, I would pick Bong Joon Ho as he would bring a sense of dark comedy in this film while being an arthouse film. Or Hideaki Anno can make it a bleak deconstruction of "inspirationally disabled" films like Forrest Gump or Rain Man with a hint of dark comedy. I love Wong Kar Wai's films but he infamously does not stick to scripts and prefers making everything on the fly.

My idea for the film is that it would be produced as one 36-hour-long film that would be divided into nine films that are 4-hours each with each film being released every year for nine years.

If we want this to be serious, then David Lynch. If we want it to be funny, then John Waters. Either way, you have to have a director who embraces a certain sense of surrealism.

If only Divine were still alive. Could you imagine a Chris biopic directed by John Waters with Divine as Chris and Mink Stole as Barb?

I want it to be Tim Burton, simply because I like his Ed Wood biopic.
(But can you imagine Johnny Depp in the role of Chris Chan?)

Paraphrasing Billy Wilder, you can’t make a movie about Chris-Chan; it has to be an opera. It does concern a goddess dethroned.

Now THAT'S how you add the layers of surrealism this story needs. Plus, it means we'll get Kyle McLachlan as Bob lol.

Divine was much more convincing as a woman than Chris. I’m a huge Lynch fan so that would be amazing but he’s not really active much these days. Spielberg could probably do justice to this story CWC: the extra weird transsexual

Yeah but the studio fucked with his vision and he’s disowned it. You gotta watch Twin Peaks to get the real David Lynch.

I would say Twins Peaks or Mulholland Drive. Plus, Naomi Watts lezzes out hard in Mulholland Drive.

What about Elephant Man? I'm pretty sure that one was a biopic, and an incredibly depressing one, at that.

It's great, but to me it didn't get as David Lynch as Mulholland Drive did. That one was some full-on Lychiness.

I think the Elephant Man would look at Chris’s life and be like “wow this is fucked”

Chris's life is so messy and without structure, to someone who is willing to watch hours long docs and read hundreds of pages of a wiki about him, I find his life very interesting in a "life is a complicated beast" sort of way; its just Chris's life isn't exactly the best for a cohesive narrative. You, as a director/writer, could embrace the nonsensical nature of it and make something akin to say, The Master, which rejects a lot of the fundamentals of storytelling to make a strange yet compelling story about a wanderer in a directionless world. Although it wouldn't be a biopic you could make a more fictionalized story about Chris and just allude to him, which might be the best option, especially if this theoretical movie where to come out in the near future. I would definitely be interested in any such movie about Chris, provided Chris isn't cast as a sympathetic character.

    Also David Lynch is great
